How Does QuitKey Work?
The QuitKey computer is designed to alter your smoking routine and ease you off cigarettes in a gradual, step-down process. The discreet, handheld computer reminds you when to smoke and when not to smoke, step-by-step, hour-by-hour, one day at a time. Designed to work in two stages, QuitKey will create a personalized quit plan based on your regular smoking routine. The first stage lasts seven days. During this stage you smoke at your normal rate and use the QuitKey smoke button to record every cigarette you smoke. QuitKey compiles this data and uses the information to built a personalized quit plan. Stage 2 follows immediately and can last from 14 to 34 days, depending on the data compiled during Stage 1. During Stage 2, QuitKey helps you follow your quit plan by prompting you when to smoke. Each day you will smoke less and gradually reduce your nicotine dependence. With this gradual, step-down method you're preparing yourself to quit cigarettes for good, drug-free and without chemical-induced side effects.

The QuitKey FAQs
Quitting smoking can be a daunting prospect. Many have tried and failed, or tried only to return to cigarettes a few months, or even years, later. But don't give up, there is a smoking cessation program out there for everyone, and QuitKey has been proven as an effective way to kick the habit. Here are the answers to a variety of frequently asked questions about QuitKey and smoking cessation in general.

Will I gain weight?
Nicotine changes your metabolism -- the rate at which your body burns calories -- so quitting actually changes your metabolism back to "normal." If you are concerned about weight gain, simply try to limit your intake of high fat food and increase your activity level. Light exercise, such as walking, will not only help prevent unwanted weight gain, but it will also help you deal more effectively with the stress caused by quitting smoking. Try taking a short, brisk walk during the times when you used to enjoy a tobacco break.

What if I have finished the program and I start smoking again?
It is not easy to quit smoking. Some people need a second or even a third chance. You also might like to know that for most people, quitting smoking is like learning to ride a bike -- you don't just hop on and ride like a champion. It takes time and a little practice. Most people try to quit smoking at least once before they truly quit for good. You just had your practice, so don't give up, try again. The important thing is to not view each attempt as a failure, rather you should see each attempt as a step on the path towards success.

What if I cheat?
The process of quitting tobacco involves learning how to cope with the inevitable urges. When the urge comes along QuitKey recommends that you try one of the following techniques: drink a glass of water, call a friend, or take a walk. Your likelihood of success is much greater if you follow the program QuitKey has designed just for you. If you absolutely can't wait for the next tobacco prompt, be sure to press the Smoke button as soon as you light up. QuitKey will take this "cheat" into consideration and adjust the program if necessary.

What if I work and can't take a break when I am prompted?
Most people work and cannot take a tobacco break whenever they want, so QuitKey has a built-in mechanism that allows your program to stop and wait for you. However, QuitKey does advise that you smoke as close to the beep prompt as you can, and that when you do get a chance to smoke you should avoid making it a pleasurable activity. Don't combine smoking with drinking coffee, chatting with friends, or talking on the phone. Just take your break, smoke, and go back to your regular routine.

How long does it take to get the nicotine out of my body?
The answer to this question depends on a variety of factors, some of which you control. When going through the withdrawals of nicotine dependence, you should drink plenty of water to help flush toxins out of your body. Other handy tips include eating plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables, and getting regular exercise. These extra steps will hasten the removal of nicotine from your body.

When compared with other smoking cessation programs, QuitKey offers the most benefits for a reasonable cost.

QuitKey is a scam: you can only use it once and reset it once in case you fail. After that the device becomes useless.

I tried the QuitKey and it does cut down smoking, but not enough to stop completely. It would be good if it could be used more than once! But no, $60 spent on nothing, its stops working once you complete the course. It does NOT say in the advertising that I saw that this device can only be used once or twice and then self-destructs, that is absolutely disgusting, dishonest and shows that the inventor is trying to make money by taking advantage of compromised people.

All of the good reviews on Amazon are not about this product but are talking about some other product from years ago. The truth is that the QuitKey deserves 1 star and unless you like throwing money away then I urge you not to buy it.

Al Behar, your dishonesty will be your downfall. Change the QuitKey so it can be reused and you will make money, not the other way round. No one will buy it twice, they will only tell other people not to buy it the first time.

It is a fact that "most smokers" that quit have done so only after multiple attempts. So this device should work as many times as necessary. But no - the marketing strategy is ingenious but very insidious. You get ONE ATTEMPT ONLY to quit. Then the device self destructs. No one can ever "try again" if they fail. No one can sell this device after they quit. That is why there are no Used Units for Sale on Amazon.

The Seller is taking advantage of people in danger of dying and giving them just ONE CHANCE for life so that he can make more money.
What is wrong with this Picture ? It makes me want to create a competing device that can be re-used as many times as necessary, so that more people will quit . . . more lives will be saved . . . and people can resell their device Used when they are done with it.
The "one use then self-destruct" strategy to make more money is sickening and the Ad does NOT REVEAL THAT INFO !!!!!

Last summer 2005 I decided to quit smoking. So I purchased the QuitKey. It is very easy to use. Actually for once in my life I could always find my car keys!! I followed the plan it was easy. I am now going into my 9th month of not smoking. I have not had one single drag off a cigarette. I also don't have a craving for one. After 30 years of cigarettes being a ball and chaing I am free from them!

At first I thought this item might actually work. I have to say that like other reviewers have noted you must want to quit or really nothing is going to work. Things were going fine down from 2 packs a day to about 5 cigarettes a day then the Quitkey stopped working. It didn't even last 2 weeks before it broke. Waste of money for sure.

This product works as advertised and will work for some smokers. However, I found it difficult to stay with the program. You still have to have the drive, motivation, and desire to quit by following the program. My Doctor advised me I had three weeks to quit smoking and quit caffiene! I ended up retiring the device and used Nicotine Snus to quit.

Cons: The alarm notification needs to be much louder or must be clipped to your belt loop so you can hear when it's time to smoke. If you cheat too much, the device starts your next day at the previous level.

Please note: The device only allows you to use it's program twice and then you will have to purchase a replacement.

After only 2 days of use my QuitKey started having problems. When it came time for the QuitKey to beep and tell me when to smoke..It never beeped! I think for $60.00 it was cheaply made, and that's to bad as I think it would of been a good tool to help smokers quit. I would not recommend this product.

.... convincing me that I was meant to die with a cigarette in my hand.

All these good reviews must be for the original LifeSign from a couple decades ago because this QuitKey certainly doesn't live up to the hype.

I couldn't wait to get my QuitKey. I was so full of hope that maybe this would be the thing that would finally work for me. I started the QuitKey program the very first morning after I received it. I followed the QuitKey program exactly, only had 2 cheat smokes in 3 weeks, and when I got down to Day 7, it would buzz at me when I pushed the smoke button (just like it does when you have a smoke before you're supposed to). Problem was.... the time had gone down to 0:00 and the smoke sign was on, so I should have been able to smoke and hit the smoke button and continue. I didn't smoke when I wasn't supposed to but because the QuitKey malfunctioned, I got penalized anyway and ended up having to repeat Day 7. It did the same thing when I finally got to Day 6.

Thinking it was just a minor glitch, I hit the reset button and started the program over -- a few days on Stage 1 and then on to Stage 2. Again, I followed the program exactly. Everything was going well. Got down to Day 10 and it did it again. QuitKey said it was OK to smoke but when I hit the smoke button it buzzed instead of beeped and I got penalized for cheating when I didn't cheat and had to repeat the day. It did this every day and not one time was I cheating when it said I was. It was so aggravating and demoralizing to have to repeat days because of this stupid little machine screwing up that I ended up shutting it off.

Go through the program. Do what you're supposed to do. And when the damn thing malfunctions it's already too late to return it for a refund.
