Still the most reliable blood pressure tester,

I own several different electronic blood pressure testers, and each of them gives a different value when I test my blood pressure. Some register higher and others lower. It can be confusing and cause problems.
Some time back I rushed off to an emergency hospital thinking my blood pressure had gone through the roof, because my expensive new electronic tester showed my blood pressure kept going up every few minutes. All that had gone up was my systolic pressure because of the panic and fear caused by the wrong diastolic reading on the machine. With the old fashioned sphygmomanometer I can always see very quickly where my blood pressure is at. I can soon tell when it has gone excessively high, and I don't have the fear of waiting while the electronic tester pumps and repumps and slowly ticks down to reveal a high blood pressure. Talk about white coat hypertension? I think these electronic testers cause it more than sitting in a doctors office. If your bp fluctuates a lot I highly recommend you get this simple tester. It comes with the stethoscope connected making it really easy to test your pressure any time. It takes a bit of practice to use it, but you need to go slow and not be in a hurry to let the air out too quickly, or you miss the readings. But the great thing is you can very quickly pump up and find the top reading, and very quickly let it out to find the bottom reading, without waiting through the painful beeping of the other electronic monitors until the final reading shows. Try using it on both arms also to compare readings. And you will soon get to know your body and your regular blood pressure readings. Then you can confirm with the other monitors and see how accurate or inaccurate they are.

Can't go wrong here!,

In my opinion this is a great little, all-in-one blood pressure monitor. I've been a licensed nursing assistant in Connecticut, an ER technician in North Carolina and a licensed EMT in Texas. I've taken plenty of blood pressure readings...including my own.
This set is well made and as accurate as you'd get in a hospital. It's a well-invested $25. And it's easy to take your own BP. The average-sized adult cuff will comfortably fit most adults.

I'm a medically untrained person who was just sent into the market for a blood pressure monitor. My first impulse was to purchase an automatic device, but after reading all the reviews I concluded that apparently they're not very accurate and that the doctors and nurses tended to review (i.e. purchase) the manual models.
Now this specific monitor is directed at home users; it's less expensive than most others and already includes a sewed- in stethoscope. The cuff also has a D- loop design, making it possible for a person to take his own blood pressure without assistance - that is something that the high end cuffs don't necessarily have, as they're intended for use by a professional on a patient. The quality is so-so. The cuff is made out of nylon (which does crackle as another reviewer notes, although I didn't think it interfered with the reading), the valve on the pump is a little hard to turn, and the stethoscope is very, very uncomfortable. You can bend it into compliance a little, but the big and rock hard earpieces hurt me every time, so I'm subtracting one star for that. The major component though - the manometer - appears very solid and confidence- inspiring. In fact, it looks exactly the same as some on the higher end models. The readings I'm taking are in line with what my doctor found, so all in all this cheap little package performs its job well. Because of the ear discomfort I mentioned, I'm just glad I don't need to use it very often. If you're a daily user, I would suggest you look for a more comfortable solution.

I had tried the electronic kind of BP monitor and found them unreliable.
I have taken my own blood pressure for many years. I've learned much from doing it. I had a manual unit from a local drug store, 8 years old but very accurate. Still it is wearing out. This Life Source unit is of better quality (construction, etc.) than my drug store model. I cross check with my old unit and of course doctor visits. This unit is very accurate. It takes just a little practice to learn to do this yourself

This is an easy way to take Bp without the hassle of a seperate stethescope and it fits into one small carrying bag. It does the job it's meant to do and is accurate every time. Not the best choice if you are going to be taking your own Bp, but great for doing others and easy to learn use for family members.

A manual cuff is the only way to go if you need to monitor your blood pressure. After going through several digital (and expensive) units, we have returned to the manual monitor. The digital ones, while easy with numerous bells and whistles, just simply are not that accurate. And, they cannot be calibrated like the manual ones. This particular one UA-100 is easy to use for one person. And, it has a little screw driver that comes with so you can calibrate it. Very easy. If you don't purchase this one, make sure it has a "D" ring on the cuff to hold it in place and on your arm while you cinch it up. This one does. The quality is very good for the price. We have 3 in our household that have to monitor, so I bought one for each of us. As long as you don't have any severe hearing problems, you will be happy with this one and find the manual monitors much more accurate.

It is very accurate every time.
It's a well-invested for $25 with an attractive price, an excellent home monitor at a very reasonable price. If you are going to take your own Bp, this unit is much easy to use than a professional mercury Sphygmomanometer. Compare with one button electronic blood pressure testers, this unit take a little more steps doing measurement. But, I found that electronic blood pressure testers are not accurate and are unreliable. I just return an electronic blood pressure tester to [...] last week before I brought this one. It takes just a little practice to learn to do this yourself. The great thing is you can very quickly pump up and find the top reading, and very quickly let it out to find the bottom reading. Great aneroid bp monitor. Easy to use. Would recommend to anyone who needs a cheap and very reliable and accurate bp monitor.

I've been using this monitor for just over a week, and so far I am very pleased. The instructions were adequate, and the device itself is very easy to use, although the cuff is very close to being too small for my arm. I can't comment on the accuracy of the monitor, since I haven't had a chance to compare it to anything, but it seems to be very consistent - I take 6 readings each day (three first-thing in the morning, three before bed) and enter the numbers into an Open Office spreadsheet. So far, each of the AM and PM readings are all within a few points of each other, despite having fluctuations from one day to the next. I take my readings in a quiet room, and haven't had any issues with not being able to hear my pulse yet, but I can attest to Big Guy's negative review that the nylon can be extremely loud, although in my case it is only an issue when removing the velcro. I learned very quickly to remove the earpieces before trying to undo the cuff! I admittedly have a limited knowledge of blood pressure monitors, but this particular device seems to be constructed of quality materials, especially the manometer, which is very heavy duty. With some common-sense care, I fully expect this monitor will last me for quite some time.

Mine arrived this morning, and it took about five minutes to read the instructions and put the stethoscope and pressure bulb together and take a reading. I had long believed there was some special expertise needed to take BP, but it turns out it couldn't be simpler.
The stethoscope is more than adequately sensitive and the gauge is readily controllable with the airbleed knob. I bought this unit because I had lost faith in an Omron HEM 780 digital monitor that I had for several years but hadn't used until a recent substantial nudge from my cardiologist. As it turns out, the Omron monitor and the new one are both pretty close in their readings, but the aneroid model is easier to use and the cuff is much less difficult to put on without a third hand. Highly recommended. Ralph L. Seifer, Long Beach, California |
