For anyone interested in Male Photography for its pure artistic form, rather than for a celebration of pornographic or homoerotic images, Matt Albani surely does a good job. All of the models for the book are young Life guards and swimmers, who if anyone is a swimmer like me of know any swimmers their bodies are almost devoid of fat and muscle leaving what I think is perfection in Male art form. The Models are not selected to be some over the top Pron stars, all are boy next door young men who you can see around any city in America. Although some models in the book might be classified as "beautiful" by some most of these young men are their becuase of their love for the beach and their artistic appeal to the photographer rather than prince charming looks. The book is a showcase that praises the a male body when it is kissed by Beach sun all summer long. If you are a beach fan, love art, or simply know these young guys It is a great book to buy.
This is surely a book for an artist or photographer and it was taken with that in mind. I give it 5 stars, I hope Albani continues to make more Books.

Into the glut of male photography books at the moment (many not worth a second - or first - look) comes this welcome book of images of male beauty from Matt Albiani.
The portraits have a depth, sensitivity and character rarely seen in male photography and the matte paper stock and printing enhance the high quality of the images. There is a genuine melancholy and thoughtfulness to the images - you get the sense of Albiani's desire to exist in this world and also his understanding of and sensitivity to the young men who inhabit it. A beautiful, collectible book.

Beach Scenes: Summer Reveries,
By Grady Harp (Los Angeles, CA United States) - See all my reviews (HALL OF FAME REVIEWER) (VINE VOICE) (TOP 50 REVIEWER) (REAL NAME)
This review is from: Lifeguard on Duty (Hardcover)
Matt Albiani has a romance with the sea. In this very straightforward collection of full-page images of lifeguards on duty there is no secondary message. These images are simply of healthy, tanned, lithe young men in colorful swim suits sitting in their station towers, or leaning or lying or standing - always with an eye for incipient danger but seemingly completely in control of the situation. Turning the pages of this photographic essay lulls the viewer into that trance that happens when the surf constantly rolls onto the sand, or the water's edge approaches and recedes, or simply laps at pool's lip - memories of warm and hot summer breezes that tend to fade with autumn's advance. Images in both black and white and color give some variety in this at times repetitious monograph while Albiani concentrates on capturing these healthy young men in action and in repose. This book is more for the coffee table meant to offer the reader a visual retreat to the pleasures of summer. Grady Harp, November 09

This book is great. It captures the feeling of being on the beach, bringing back wonderful memories of all the vacations spent at the beach with my children. By the way, one of the lifeguards photographed at work, is my son!
