5.0 out of 5 stars Possibly Lee Hammond's best book
Even if you own Lee Hammond's other drawing books, there is still a wealth of information to be gained from this one! The author provides clear instructions on a variety of topics -- from drawing stunning glass objects to producing the most technical architecture renderings -- it's all here, in the unique Hammond style.

2.0 out of 5 stars Smudging? really?
I really like the set up for this book and there are some really interesting suggestion, BUT most art teachers abhorre the smudge and smear technique. Though the technique may make a beginner artist feel proud, know that higher level art teachers will not be okay with this technique and will not take you seriously.
If you are buying this book for your own personal...

If I had to choose one drawing book to keep, out of my entire collection, it'd likely be this one. I'm thoroughly enjoying the reading of it and looking forward to practicing the many tutorials it offers.

I give it a resounding A+.

5.0 out of 5 stars Lee Hammon Does it Again, April 28, 2005
This review is from: Lifelike Drawing with Lee Hammond (Paperback)
She has a way of describing her techniques and showing what needs to be done with just the right amount of information. She is gifted and it shows, not only in her art work, but in her writing as well. If you want to learn to draw real life, get this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Book, December 12, 2009

After looking at every book I've been able to find on pencil drawing, and purchasing WAY too many of them, I can honestly say that this is one of my favorites. While Ms. Hammond's artwork is sometimes a little too soft-edged and "finished" for my personal tastes, I have found her explantions and exercises to be incredibly useful. I think that she is probably a really great teacher. I wish I could find the time to take one of her workshops. . . but for now using her books will have to do.

I've just recently received this and 2 other books by Lee and absolutly love all of them. I am currently working from this book and can't rave enough about it. Her techniques have been so helpful that she has a lifetime fan, and my library will soon contain any and all books she has or will ever publish. Thank you Lee for making my drawings come to life. I can't put my pencil down.

5.0 out of 5 stars excellent tutorial, better than an online course, March 31, 2008
This review is from: Lifelike Drawing with Lee Hammond (Paperback)
I found a book at the library by this authur and then knew I had to have one of her books for keeps. I have always enjoyed drawing and checked out many books as a teenager on "how to draw" but this book was revolutionary for me. I learned what tools I needed and how to use them and my drawing improved drastically. I have made over $250.00 selling 8x10 photo's of my sketches ($25 each)people tell me I should charge way more, which I may someday, but I am just getting started. I used to only be comfortable drawing protraits, I am now confident that I can draw most anything I have a photo of (I did an eagle, some dogs, and a cat.) My advise: If you want to learn how to draw--buy this book!

5.0 out of 5 stars Basic techniques for drawing lifelike images, August 3, 2006
This review is from: Lifelike Drawing with Lee Hammond (Paperback)
This was my first Lee Hammond book and not likely to be the last. I have found that this book is very easy to follow, and a must have for any aspiring artist who loves to draw! It has helped me greatly in understanding how to use drawing tools and whenever I draw from it, I have loved ones peering over my shoulder to see what I'm drawing and the ohhhs' and awwws really put a smile on my face. Not to mention the finished product of my drawing. I didn't even know that I had that much talent but this book helps to bring it out of me and onto paper!
