This review is from: Lifeline LF-04234 Family Disaster Kit (145 Pieces) (Kitchen)
I read a lot of emergency kit descriptions before deciding on this one for my family. I think that some of the other kits out there are probably a little bit better, but this one was a lot less expensive. Things I think this kit really needs to be great: (1) Water purification tablets--I'm not sure what good the collapsible water container is without them. I picked up some tablets at Joe's for $10, which I think was way too much. (2) A multi-tool--I picked up an inexpensive one at Lowe's for less than $10, which has pliers, a saw, knives, can openers, etc all in one tool. I wouldn't pay ~$70 for a Leatherman that will sit unused almost all of the time. (3) More food bars--the amount included wouldn't last a single person for three days, much less a family of four. You can get 3600 Calorie bars on Amazon, but the shipping is pricey (heavy) so I'm going to keep looking elsewhere.
One other good thing about the kit is that, while small (I want to keep it in my car, but don't want it taking up all the trunk space), it did still have enough room to include the water tablets, multi-tool, extra thermal blanket, poncho, and hand-warmer (I have 5 in my family), and still has enough room for some food bars if I pack it carefully. For comparison, I got mine for ~$100 with free shipping, and expect to pay a total of ~$50 more for all of the extras I felt it was missing and to bring it up to a 5-person kit. Good luck, and if you get one of these kits, please leave a review--so few people have left reviews that I found it very hard to choose a good one myself.
