Finally, the "Lifeline" album by Roy Ayers from the summer of 1977 is released on CD for the first time. Talk about rare and hard to find, I've been searching for this one for at least 20 years. This CD contains both the original version and the extended 12-inch version of the classic dance track "Running Away". Other great tracks include the steamy, soulful slow groove "Gotta Find A Lover", the romantic "I Still Love You" and "This Side of Sunshine", the jubilant "Sanctified Feeling" and the smooth instrumental title track "Lifeline" with Roy doing what he does best - playing 'dem vibes. Guest vocalists include Edwin Birdsong and Dee Dee Bridgewater. Every song on this CD is great!

Now if they would only release the "Fever" and "No Stranger To Love" albums on CD, I would be a very happy man indeed. Any Roy Ayers album from the '70's is awesome, and Lifeline is no exception. If you're a Roy Ayers fan, you definitely need to add this one to your collection. Check it out!

5.0 out of 5 stars Roy In a Liquid Thump, April 26, 2009
Even on the uptempo stuff Roy Ayers' music has always flowed and dripped like a liquid as well as scorched and burned. You'd think that combination would'nt work,as in real life but musically it definately does. In terms of the style this definately says the quiet part loud and the loud part quiet;the album begins with a series of mostly smooth groovers that are mid to down tempo, not less grooving though lol."This Side Of Sunshine","Gotta Fine A Lover","I Still Love You" and the title track, with it's very Jamiroquai like synth beeps all fall in that direction."Running Away" of course is one of this albums crowning glories, not just for this particular album but for the man himself as well-all it's steamy,disco-funk rhythmic power, thumpy bass and spare style are classic Ayers. Now somewhere after this things get SERIOUSLY funky with music like "Cincinnati Growl","Fruit","Stranded In The Jungle","Together" and the gospel vocal shouts on "Sanctified Feeling" pull the bassline upfront, the drums break beating away and Roys sexy voice and great vibbing away right upfront where everyone can here it.The 70's were really a great furtile musical ground for Roy Ayers in terms of being a jazz-funk and it kept going like that 100% of the decade with No Stranger to Love. So coming from such an artistically positive period in his music this is worth you hearing for sure!

I was so glad to see the album become available on CD. "This side of sunshine", "I still love you", "Running Away" and "Lifeline" got major airplay when I had this on vinyl.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hope Vibrations is next..., February 14, 2008
Something made me look for some Roy Ayers, and by suprise, I see Lifeline makes it debut on CD!!! I still play this record and it's jacked up! Been looking for a digital replacement and it's finally here!!! Now, what about "Vibrations?" I'm a big fan of Roy's Ubiquity and will continue to be, but let me buy this one and check out R.A.M.P. and see if it's the one I've been looking for in 2 decades... Come into Knowledge
