4.0 out of 5 stars This is 2 pieces
This little device is 2 separate handles that are wedged between the back and front of a closed door. They can be spaced as needed for your comfort.

There is no bar connecting the left and right handles. They are not connected in any way.

The door **must** close and should have a lock on it for safety. If the door opens with any weight on it,...

3.0 out of 5 stars Broke with p90x use, might be ok for travel
I'm editing my former review to let other buyers know that this pull up bar set does not work when used with P90x, the sole reason why I got it. I weigh 148 pounds, and about 5'10", so I am not exactly heavy. After a few days of admittedly hard use (multiple sets of 10+ reps at fairly high speed), a crack opened in one of the handles. I rotated this handle to avoid...

This little device is 2 separate handles that are wedged between the back and front of a closed door. They can be spaced as needed for your comfort.

There is no bar connecting the left and right handles. They are not connected in any way.

The door **must** close and should have a lock on it for safety. If the door opens with any weight on it, you'll fall.
There are pads on the grips and between your hands and the door - very nice. After a few reps, the straps connecting the front and back pieces have scrapped off a little paint at the top of my door. The other side of the door has similar scraping, but since I'm using a closet, damage doesn't matter. Wrapping all parts that contact the door may help prevent/reduce damage, but I haven't tried that.

Wearing knee pads is probably a good idea until you have lots of control, so you don't damage either your knees or the door with every rep.

Overall, this is a simple device that does what the picture shows for a small cost. It is sized for travel.

5.0 out of 5 stars Chin ups anywhere!!! Zero hassle!!!, May 13, 2007

No need to drill, screw or break anything to have a door chin up equipment. Heck I even use it on a 2 hinge door and it holds my weight 180 lbs. Doing a chin up on it is abit harder because you can't swing your body hence no momentum to assist you, making it more effective IMHO. I'm currently doing 8-10 full rep chin up with it!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent product, October 7, 2007
This review is from: Lifeline Power Up Chin Ups (Misc.)
I agree with the previous reviewer, in that without open space to "cheat" on your way up, AND with the added resistence of your hips/knees against the door, it is much more work doing pull-ups with this product, over a normal chin-up bar.

On top of that, you can take them down immediately, and put them up just as fast, without being forced to stick to one door way!

A great investment for any home gym.

This works great. I travel a lot, and it's perfect to toss inside my luggage and do pull-ups in my hotel room.

5.0 out of 5 stars The fastest and the best, January 23, 2008

The handle bars are great for chin ups. Don't let the picture fool you, doing chin ups off the door felt totally natural and my biceps get completely blown! The setup takes less than 5 seconds and can be moved anywhere just as quickly. Also, Lifeline included a free jump rope and push up bars. I don't care for the push up bars (doesn't have a good grip), but the the jump rope is great! But the chin up bars alone make it more than worth the price.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Option for Traveling Pilot, March 9, 2009
I've always enjoyed doing chin-ups for a quick and great workout. I live on the road as a pilot 18 days each month and have become frustrated over the years with the lack of chin-up bars in hotels. I initially purchased a "Iron Gym" brand pull-up bar and dissassembled it for travel in my suitcase. That type of pullup bar is one of the coolest fitness inventions in a long time, however, for travel it has it's limitations. It takes up a lot of precious travel bag space, you have to assemble/disassemble with each use, could only use in about 30% of hotels (because of door dimensions/limitations), and TSA frowns at having a bludgeoning weapon in your suitcase. So here goes my enthusiastic argument for the traveling fitness guru to own a pair of these Power UP Chin Up bars!! For one, they utilize minimal space in an already tightly congested travel bag. TSA never questions them. They work in 99% of hotels. They're a great workout!!! I initially didn't know what to think the first time I used them, but noticed how sore I was the next day, and I regularly do chin-ups. Because you can't swing your body and you slide up and down the door, these chin-up bars target additional muscles in addition to the ones worked normally. I've grown to appreciate them more with each workout as I've broken in the new muscles and have incorporated new techniques. There is a slight (minimal) discomfort on the nuckles that leaves no residual discomfort after the workout. And, if you're worried about damaging the door, worry no more. The bathroom doors in hotels are overly fortified with aluminum frames, thick and heavy doors, with industrial hinges. I'm 200 lbs and have seen no stress on any of the doors I've worked out on so far. Over all, after exhausting my options for a traveling pull up device, these Power Up Chin Up bars by far are the best option out there. For the price, you can't get a better back and bicep workout in your hotel room. I highly recommend to anyone who wants to stay in shape on the road. Buy them!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome Pull-up device, January 7, 2008
This review is from: Lifeline Power Up Chin Ups (Misc.)
I wanted something I could do pull-ups on that was not permanently in place. I found that none of the pull-up bars that said they go in a doorway would work with the doors in my house. This was my last resort. Not only was it super inexpensive, but it fits in literally any door. It's also portable and super-light so I can do pull-ups anywhere I go. You can do pull-ups and chin-ups with these and can space them differently to work different muscles. Lifeline, the guys who sell it, even sent me some free push-up handles and a jump rope when I bought it. I was super impressed.

3.0 out of 5 stars Broke with p90x use, might be ok for travel, August 18, 2010

I'm editing my former review to let other buyers know that this pull up bar set does not work when used with P90x, the sole reason why I got it. I weigh 148 pounds, and about 5'10", so I am not exactly heavy. After a few days of admittedly hard use (multiple sets of 10+ reps at fairly high speed), a crack opened in one of the handles. I rotated this handle to avoid getting the strap stuck in the crack, and this worked ok for awhile. Then a crack opened on the other side of the handle, and another in the second handle. Today, the strap pulled out a giant chunk of the first handle, making it too sharp to use.

I know I probably used this too hard, but this was not a sturdy product. I wouldn't recommend it as anything except for a stopgap when traveling. It is very portable, but the advantages over any other bar end there.

3.0 out of 5 stars Both broke, June 12, 2010

I have done approximately 2000 pullups with this product and the plastic cylinders have broken on both. They have broken at the edges. I weigh 180 pounds. I can still use the product if I am very careful about where the cylinder is positioned, so that the straps do not dig in to where it has broken. This will only work for a little while longer I imagine, I expect the product to break completely soon. I might buy this product again, but I will be very careful about how I use it, always aware of the stress being placed on the cylinders. Basically this means I will try and be very smooth with the pullup, especially at the transition points at the bottom and top. The three breaks so far have occurred at the top of the pull. If you are lighter than 180 and are careful with this product I think it will last longer than 2000 pulls, but who knows.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great price, Great product, February 22, 2008
This review is from: Lifeline Power Up Chin Ups (Misc.)
These are very small and compact and can fit in a laptop bag for travel. I have used them on many different styles of doors including those cheap hollow doors used in most homes. I have had no problems whatsoever on any doors so far. Highly recommend for traveling or just for someone at home who does not have access to chinup bar. These work fine for forward or reverse grip and you can obviously move them for close or wide grip (limited only by width of the door).
