Probably The Best Compliation on Maze...here's why?,
By
This review is from: Lifelines 1 (Audio CD)
When it comes to music full of funk and fun...and if you wanna locate one of the baddest R&B/soul bands of all time, look no further...Frankie Beverly & Maze is the group. Their music featured that raw, Southern soulful funk, flaired with a double dose of sizzling soul. Few "greatest hits" compliations of Maze are rocking the music stores, but this 1989 Capitol project, featuring 10 tracks in all, probably remains the most popular and the most acceptable. It's not a complete experience - if you want to feature some of Maze's underground and successful R&B hits such as "I Wish You Well", "I Love You Too Much", "Changing Times" and "I Wanna Thank You" but the remix contributions of the "Joy and Pain" (featuring rapper Kurtis Blow) and "Before I Let Go" (featuring Woody Wood) are unsurpassable - giving Maze a modern updated look that is sure to open the ears of generations to come. Don't be afraid old skool lovers - the original version are still on here. Plus, with "Running Away", "Golden Time of Day", "Southern Girl" and the late 80s jam, "Back In Stride offered here, you can't be upset at all.

I was raised on Frankie Beverly and Maze and there is nothing like their music! My boyfriend and I have gone to see them live and their show is always jammin! This CD is one that stays in my cd player for days. Some of my faves are Golden Time of Day, While I'm Alone, Happy Feelins', etc. You gotta buy this CD! I have TWO..one for the care and one for the house! ahahaa =OD

MAZE Rules!,

As far as the cuts on this album go, I cannot say enough! No block party would be complete without MAZE - especially "Before I Let Go". Even the old folks get up and be movin' to beat. When those horns and Frankie's "Whoa oh!" shout booms out, the party is definitely started. "Joy and Pain" is another killer track. I would recommend this for all those of us who remember back in the day and for those young ones who are stealing our music anyway. ( Can't have nothin' )

The Greatest Love Song Singer from a Mans point of view,

I've been associated with Maze since the very beginning working for Frankie and the Guys organizing the Maze Fan Club (Dallas Branch). It is my opinion that there is no other male singing group that delivers a message of love like MAZE. Frankie's style is to not trick with the music for cross over appeal for that I have always respected him. Frankie also has the ability to deliver a love message from a man's point of view, without the "baby please beggin" groove. And the longevity of the group speaks for it self, and let me add there is no better SHOW than a Maze featuring Frankie Beverly show, if you get the chance have this experience at least once in your life. Can't get enough of Frankie Beverly and Maze!,

I am definitely old school when it comes to my music and would recommend this CD. I saw Frankie Beverly and Maze in Indiana when Happy Feelins' came out (late '70's?), in Sacramento in 2002 and in New Orleans at the Essence Festival in 2004. They still sound just as great as the first time I heard them and I never tire of listening to this group. I also have their Back to Basics CD and Live in New Orleans DVD. They are always the last act at the Essence Festival each year and the audience gives mad props to them, which is much deserved.

Great for both the soul lover and the funkateer in me.,

Seriously, we get some smokin' slow jams and other hard funk numbers. My favorite has got to be Joy and Pain with Kurtis Blowe...I'm not a big rap fan but still love Kurtis' rap in the middle. I also love While I'm Alone, Golden Time of Day and Before I Let Go with Woody Wood. Every song on the album is great, and it's perfect to listen to late at night, when the lights are low and you're working on your computer. It really helps get the mood going.
Whether you want to dance or chill, you've got it here.

My first Maze CD - a disappointment,

10 tracks can hardly do justice to Maze and since 2 of them are remixes, you are left with 8 Greatest Hits. The only reason I've held onto it after replacing it with Greatest Hits is the latter does not have the album version of Joy And Pain (it is replaced by a live version as is Happy Feelin's). Otherwise Greatest Hits is a much better selection for your money with 10 more songs for a couple more dollars.

Maze is a really good, really long-winded R&B band for the uninitiated. Trust me, this is some pretty funky stuff. You'll especially appreciate it if you listen to it with Parliament and/or Earth Wind and Fire. The best three songs are:
1. While I'm Alone 2. Joy and Pain (with Kurtis Blowe) 3. Before I Let Go (with Woody Wood) Although just about every other song on this album is good. By the way, I'd recommend you buy this with "Millenium Collection Parliament" and "The Best of Earth Wind and Fire, Volume 1". |
