Editorial Reviews

8Ball is one half of the rap duo 8Ball & MJG. The group is pioneers of Southern rap from Memphis, TN. In the early '90s aligned with the Houston, TX-based independent label Suave Records, they quickly garnered a tremendous regional following while proving highly influential to a generation of aspiring, independent-minded rap artists and entrepreneurs. The duo enjoyed increasing recognition as the years passed, releasing a couple albums, namely Comin' Out Hard (1994) and In Our Lifetime, Vol. 1 (1999), that would become Southern rap milestones, along with classic singles like "Space Age Pimpin'." 8Ball & MJG eventually left Suave for a major label, JCOR/Interscope, in 2000, and then were signed by Diddy to Bad Boy Records, resulting in their most commercially successful album to date, Living Legends (2004). In addition, 8Ball & MJG recorded individually, the former by far the more prolific of the two. Ever since the duo's 1993 successful debut ''Comin' Hard" 8Ball & MJG have been at the forefront of the southern rap movement.

Love the album especially the opening track indestructible. I have always preferred 8Ball's smooth delivery over MJG's rough vocals, so any album I can get with 8Ball by himself I buy. To me 8ball sounds best rapping over nice soft R & B beats, with bass baging in the background & this album delivers. I love his smooth flow. If you are a fan of his like me, get the album. As usual 8Ball brings it.

"Life's Quest" carries an overall lighter tone and more radio friendly than March's "Premro" mixtape. Single "Good Girl Bad Girl" and "Don't Bring Me Down" featuring 2 Chainz and a hypnotic stop-start beat, are low-stakes sex and party jams, respectively. The album is well polished album that balances a mixed bag of beats and subject matter. If your fan of 8ball this an album that is must a have.

8Ball has been in the rap game since the mid-90s and I've been a supporter of his (along with his Memphis homeboy MJG) ever since. Life's Quest is definitely real to the street with it's G lyrics and smooth hip-hop beats. He has something everyone on the album. 'Good Girl Gone Bad' - a hot track showing ladies can have a moral good and bad side to their determiner, which makes her more enticing have. 'Touch' - Another sexy track for the ladies, with a groovy, sexy beat with flirtatious and foreplay content to a woman that catches his interest. 'This That' - explains his street nature and he loves living the life he lives. 'Indestrucble' - another jam how there has been times he's been down and out, yet he won't go out without a fight. I won't go over the whole 12-track album, but I'm telling you all, it's worth the purchase! He also has features from MJG, GOOD music's own 2Chainz, Big Krit and many others. I'm usually hard on today's hip-hop and where it's leading, but this is one of those album this year that gives me hope there might be a little fight left in the genre. Besides Nas' new album, Life Quest has to be one of the most solid albums I've heard all year.
