Lifetime 1479 Portable Basketball Goal System features a 48-inch Shatter Guard fusion backboard that is made of Makrolon polycarbonate, making it virtually unbreakable and many times stronger than acrylic. The black hammertone steel, three piece, three inch round quick-adjust pole system allows you to lower the rim height from eight to ten feet using a broomstick. Players of any age or skill can enjoy the game at their level. 1.25-inch straight round extension arms provide increased playing area beneath the basket. And a black Slam-It rim features double compression springs that provide spring-back action. This system is built for competitive play with welded-steel net hooks and an all-weather nylon net. The portable base fills easily with water or sand providing a stable foundation and rolls easily on its own wheels to your desired location.

Portable basketball systems depend on a base filled with sand or water for stability. Although it will take up more space than an in-ground system, the portable base rolls on wheels, allowing players to position the basketball system in the desired location (and also allowing storage in a garage). Let me start by saying that this basketball goal is a great product once it is put together. It is sturdy and looks good. This goal is hard to beat for the price. The instructions aren't bad either. The hardest part is the height adjusting mechanism which takes some care. It took my wife and I about 4 hours to put the whole thing together so be sure you have enough time before starting. A few of the bolts and nuts fit a little tight but overall fit is good and holes match up pretty well. My three kids ages 9, 11, and 13 all love playing basketball with it and so do I.

I am very happy I took the chance on this basketball backboard unit. It was not very hard to put together at all. The piece were all there and they even put in a few easy to misplace pieces in an extra washer and an extra nut. I built the unit with my little guy and it took us about an 1 hour, just pre-read the directions and get all your pieces and tools in order. It has been up for a couple of days and the base is filled with water rather than sand I did add a bag of sand on top, just in case, to give it a little more weight on the back. Overall it looks and works fantastic and the price is not too bad as it feels pretty sturdy. I would not hang off the rim, but for let kids play basketball it is a big win I give it five stars easily.

The goal is great once it is assembled. The problem is with the instructions. There is a step with an incorrect parts list and a step with an incorrect picture. That is inexcusable for the number of basketball goals that Lifetime must sell. If you take your time and realize your instincts are better than the manufacturer's instructions, it is not that problematic. The assembled goal is great!
