The goal's sturdiness stems from the cement-ready base, which is more rigid and takes up less space than portable basketball goals (it does require roughly 72 hours of cement drying time, however). The clear 50-inch Shatter Guard backboard, meanwhile, is made of Makrolon polycarbonate, which is virtually unbreakable and 30 times stronger than acrylic. As a result, broken backboards are a thing of the past, even from errant rocks and other non-basketball threats. In addition, the board offers a UV coating that prevents yellowing over time, a high-impact polyethylene frame, and screen-printed inks for fade-resistant color.

With the high-quality construction of many portable basketball systems, turning your driveway into a basketball court can be as simple as hooking up your garden hose. But while a portable system may ultimately be your best choice, there are reasons you may want to consider an in-ground or wall-mount system before you decide.

In-Ground Systems
In-ground systems are permanently cemented into the ground--either via a bolt mounting kit or directly into the ground--and are generally more rigid and take up less space than portables. In-ground systems often require that you hire a professional to complete the task, but when the cement dries you'll have a hoop that can take punishing dunks with ease.

Many in-ground systems are height-adjustable, include removable post features that let you take the system down for off-season storage, and feature heavy-duty break-away rims. You'll also want to research the adjustable mechanisms on the systems, as there are several types to choose from. Some feature a counter-balance spring that lets you perform easy, one-hand adjustments while others may feature a sturdy, pneumatic system.

Wall-Mount Systems
Wall-mount systems can be mounted to the side of a house, a tall retaining wall, or a garage. Generally sturdier than portables, wall-mounts have the added advantage of optimizing your existing ground space for the court, since you won't take any space up with the base or pole. Portable Systems

Backboard Considerations

For an in the ground basketball goal this is a great buy. It took me and my father about 3 hours to put it together. Instructions were adequate. It would have been easier if the larger pieces were labeled. I highly suggest buying the in Lifetime Ground Sleeve for 3.5 Inch Round Poles. It made installation easier and I can now remove the goal if we ever move or if a hurricane is coming.

I went to Lowes and bought a cardboard cement tube, four 80 pound bags of concrete, and four two foot pieces of rebar. I put the ground sleeve in the concrete per the instructions and let it sit for a few days before installing the goal into the sleeve.

I would say the biggest knock on this system is the backboard itself. I am sure the polycarbonate backboard will hold up fine, but it is just very thin.

The goal adjusts heights really really easy and that is a great thing for growing kids.

Received the box in perfect condition. I started putting the backboard and rim together but needed my husband's help when I attached the supports and poles. Directions were easy to follow and parts were easy to identify. It was relatively simple to assemble. After several bags of concrete and a few days setting time, it's a great basketball goal. Adjusting the height is very simple and easy. We lower it for our 6 yr old and raise it back up when my husband and I play. It's very sturdy and looks great. No problems what-so-ever and we've already reccommended it to a friend.

I ordered this hoop on Dec. 2 to ensure my son would have it for Christmas. I recieved it on Dec 7 only to find that the box was opened and the assebley parts were falling out. I called UPS and Amazon. Amazon told me they would send me a return label but, now I had to get the box to the Post Office to be shipped back. My question: Why do you think I had Amazoon send it to me in the first place? This is a very heavy box and very large. I used amazon so I would not have to worry about lifting or would it fit in my car!!! Now because the company they hired to get the package to me has damaged my item I am now the responsible party. What type of crap is this? Next time I will think twice because this is not worth the hassel. If they can arrange for someone to drop off their products then they should be able to arrange for someone to pick up their items.
