Must Read!,
By Loma Rilla "Loma Rilla" (Des Peres) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Lifetime Loser (Paperback)
An excellent read! I was pleasantly surprised by how riveting the story was. My husband picked up this book at the country club a couple of months ago and told me how great it was. I don't play golf so I was in no hurry to read it. Last weekend I picked it up and couldn't put the book down. What a fascinating story! Who would have thought the gentlemen's game of golf could have such a twist. I found the story compelling and enlightening. I couldn't believe this great story was written by a first time author. I hope the author is planning to write more stories. He has what it takes to be on the Best Sellers list. How about a sequel to this story James Ross?

Mr. Ross has combined interesting facets in his book "Lifetime Loser". Golf and cheating have always co-existed, but not in such an entertaining way!

Love James Ross style writing. Grabs your interest from beginning, never lets go!! From loving the youngster,J Dub,through following his years to becoming father, himself, aching as he struggles to be a good provider, celebrating his chance to run a golf course . . life seemed so good. He couldn't know the struggles ahead, having innocently partnered with not so innocent guys. Not only 'not so innocent' but downright dirty crooked men.
From loving golf courses, the beauty and care given them, watching much golf on TV, knowing 'it's a gentleman's game', I was fascinated with the twists and turns the book takes. Couldn't put it down, read in two afternoons. Fourth of James Ross books I've read, love them all! Looking forward to book #5, James!! ( My very favorite, so far, is still 'OPUR'S BLADE!!). I was skeptic about this book. I have never played golf let alone picked up a golf club. But when I started reading this, I couldn't put it down. I had it done in a couple of days.
The story of a young mans life and all the twists and turns it takes was remarkable. The love for the game and his family was great. He is naive and taken advantage of by a man that makes him the escape goat. The corruption with the politics and lawyers with the state of Illinois are so real. I am from Illinois so it made me think all the time is this real? Do I know this politian? I loved it. Would recommend!

"A GENTLEMAN'S GAME GONE WRONG",
By irene brodsky (brooklyn new york) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Lifetime Loser (Paperback)
In "Lifetime Loser" by James Ross, Mr.Ross uses very creative writing skills
to introduce a young boy and his loving father in such a way that I could visualize the 11 year old boy, J Dub, and his wonderful father, Bob. The warmth between son and father can truly be felt as Bob teaches his son to respect the rules of a gentleman's game of golf. Years go by quickly. The father passes away leaving behind a good, decent son who is now married, soon to become a father and hoping to become one of the Top 20 Players in the Tournament. But fate is not kind to J Dub, and he does not make the Top 20. But the story does not end here! A shady, sleezy con man awaits in J Dub's uncertain future. His name is Lew and he has a deal to make with J Dub...a partnership in a run down golf course. Negotiations are made, plans to fix up the golf course, to make lots of money.....etc. Sounds too good to be true, you say? I recommend you get your own copy of this exciting, book and find out for yourself! Pray for J Dub to rise above all deceit and obstacles that stand in his way. May he remember all the good advise his dearly beloved father instilled in him. And most of all, may he finally get that hole in one! I have not had the pleasure of personally meeting James Ross but I get a strong feeling that he is or was a golfer! Regardless, I am very glad he wrote this fantastic book.
