I placed a dry sample in my mouth and received a pleasant surprise: no grittiness (none) and I enjoyed the flavor, to me it tasted like a combination of vanilla with a hint of licorice. Using a blender, I later added a scoop of powder to 2 cups of plain unsweetened soy milk, and added one banana.

Again I found the flavor quite tasty. There is a slightly pronounced after taste which reminds me (again) of licorice, am wondering if this might the reason some have downgraded the flavor? Overall I like the product as well as the taste and will probably be ordering more.

Addendum: No gritty texture or detectable sediment whatsoever. Container reads "Expiration 03-2013 Lot 1759"

To assist those who wish to know what constitutes the ingredients, I have transcribed a sufficient amount of information from the product label, for purposes of brevity omitting the amino acid listing. As a health care provider and certified diabetes educator I liked the amino acid distribution and appreciated the omission of sweeteners.

I would recommend this product for those seeking an unsweetened, vegan protein powder supplement.

I am a nutritionist and have been into fitness and weight training for 20 years, but I've never used a supplemental protein. I am a mom to three boys and am no longer a "spring chicken." As I near 40 years old, I've noticed that I am not recovering as quickly after work-outs. Because I am a bodybuilder, I continue to work towards adding more muscle while staying as lean as possible. I was recently blessed with the opportunity of being Spotlighted in a fitness magazine. It is my goal to be a role model mom for women of all ages. I want to ensure that I am getting all the nutrients I need for my fitness goals and for optimal health. I also want to recommend products that are safe, healthful, and of excellent quality. I can honestly say that Lifetime Life's Basics Plant Protein is one of those products. The vanilla flavor is very natural and not at all over-powering. It was of extreme importance that I found a product without added sugar, artifical (chemical) sweeteners, unnatural flavors, or added chemicals. This protein not only has no added chemicals, but it is exceptional! I particularly like the blend of three protein sources that yields a better amino acid ratio. The Chia seed is a source of essential fatty acids that are vitally important for optimal health.

The taste of this plant protein is fabulous. When I made my first shake I was honestly pleasantly surprised. Not only does it mix well with a simple shaker, it stays smooth and does not have grit or clumps. It tastes great with juice or even juice mixed with water. The digestibility was also essential to my needs. It does not cause bloating or discomfort (which most protein powders do and also why I never used one!). Because I do not want an animal protein source, Life's Basics was the ideal choice and I am thoroughly happy with this protein and will continue to use it and recommend it.

I really love this product because fits all the following requirements for me:

TASTE: excellent vanilla taste that is not sweetened (who needs that if you are mixing it with fruit juices and such); reading through reviews of other products I can see that other vegan protein powders don't live up to this. Also, I have used other products and can say the taste of this product is superior to most. Yes, like all powders it's a little chalky but that is what protein powder is by its very nature. The point is that the taste is excellent FOR a protein powder. Vanilla taste is really great.

DIGESTIBILITY: I was not interested in soy products because, well, they make you toot. Also my body seems sensitive to certain foreign supplements, like multivitamins that make me feel nauseous. This product has no such ill effect on me.

PRICE: I had read a positive review about the product's price-point in comparison to other products and was favorably impressed myself.

As a side note, I was excited to find a product with chia as this plant was considered a kind of super-food by local Native American groups. It was said once that a handful of chia seeds would offer a person enough energy to last a day. That's pretty high praise. (Individuals from these same groups often lived to well over 100, by the way.)

A+++ all the way.

Alright, So I def wanted to try something DIFFERENT. I'm a 27 yr MARINE and I am wicked into nutrition. When I fist saw this stuff I was like Finally found what I was looking for. I got it in and Oh my goodness. I Just mixed one scoop with 8oz of water and it was absolutely horrible. But I somehow made it down, Now let me tell you I have been experimenting with it, And 1 scoop of the product, 8oz of water and a 6oz cup of CHOBANI yogurt any flavor with 1/2 a banana is the most amazing shake I think you can make with this product, Its perfect for after workout and in between meals. Put that combo in a quick mix blender and it is a treat. Please try it if you get this or already own it and let me know what you think. Thanks for reading. My next mix is going to be with Strawberries. Get it and try it. Thats all I have to say.
