Editorial Reviews

From Library Journal

No currently available men's sex guide is "ultimate," and neither is this, despite authorship by a committee of journalists and researchers assembled in conjunction with Men's Health magazine. Its considerable strengths include extensive focus on courtship and relationships, especially on pleasing "the woman in one's life," and detailed coverage of men's and women's lifecycle issues, e.g., travel, parenthood, and retirement. For heterosexuals, the journalistically chipper text incorporates different viewpoints through quotes from "over 150 sex experts" and liberal use of hot-topic sidebars. These reasons earn the book a place in most public libraries, but it is not a complete resource. Ironically, health is shortchanged; many sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) are not mentioned, and neither is retarded ejaculation or disorders like priapism. Also missing are more fringy areas like sex toys, sadomasochism, bisexuality, and open relationships. To cover these areas also, buy Michael Castleman's Sexual Solutions: A Guide for Men and the Women Who Love Them (S. & S., 1989) and Cathy Winks and Anne Semans's The New Good Vibrations Guide to Sex (Cleis, 1997).?Martha Cornog, American Coll. of Physicians Lib., Philadelphia

From Booklist

Rabid for the Men's Health magazine slant on women, relationships, and contemporary studliness in general, men of the nineties may or may not take to heart such observations as this on positioning the pelvis to enhance sex appeal: "Now that you're aware of this, please don't be too obvious about it--women will think you're walking around like that because you have a load in your pants, which is counterproductive to the image you were probably trying to convey." Instead of the personal hygiene many Men's Health books purvey, this one deals with how today's manly man gets laid simply, frequently, and amiably. Not that the producers of this tome are only interested in sex, which, they aver, "is simply one aspect of a life of intimacy with the woman you love." Commendable for its minute examination of sex throughout the stages of a man's life, this is popular men's studies at its zenith, providing constructive and sensible advice for guys seeking a few tips and, with a little luck, maybe some action. 5.0 out of 5 stars Very informative. I love it!, June 11, 1999

As the mother of a teenager and a very sensual person, I found this book to be very helpful in many situations. Though a woman, it has helped me in a couple of quandaries. I really like the format used. I have recommended this book on the discussion board I lead, "Talking to Kids About Sex," through iVillage TWN's Parent Soup Community. I have also recommended it to many friends.

This is a great book with lots of useful and interesting information. Every time someone comes over my house, they pick this book up and become hooked!! So far, I've bought it for several of my friends, because they wanted to borrow mine, and I didn't want to let it leave my house!

You won't be disappointed. Women will find this just as useful (if not more) than men!

I thought this was a sex manual, it's not. It's really a summary of a bunch of articles and books thrown together. Better and possibly cheaper to read the original sources. I didn't find it terribly helpful but you might want to get it for your son when he turns 16 if you have a good relationship with him.
