Product Description

Larry Coryell s third album on Wide Hive Records is simply astounding. On this throwback-style rock trio record, Larry delivers quintessential performances throughout all 12 tracks. Offering rock, blues, and soul-infused jazz, Larry is on his game with skills so amazing, it will make you seriously question how they could be the one-take performances they are. Guitarists take note: Larry s got game!

Review

You don t even have to be a fan of his or a guitar aficionado to dig this disc; anyone who likes that old school funky rock-jazz with a few delectable diversions will find a lot to like about it. The old Larry Coryell, the Father of Fusion Guitar, is back. --Something Else!

5.0 out of 5 stars National Treasure March 11, 2013
By msb
Format:MP3 Music
At times like a musical flamethrower strapped to a bucking bronco Coryell has more depth, energy, creativity and chops than any 10 good guitarists combined. This is a powerful statement from the 70 year old visionary. An exhilarating, angular musical journey of the highest order.

Coryell plugging in and getting nasty... it reminds me of his Vanguard recordings like Live at the Village Gate. Highly recommended!

5.0 out of 5 stars fusion at its visionary best April 11, 2013
Format:Audio CD
The guitar virtuoso Larry Coryell has had and up and down career. And quite unjustified being overshadowed by others - be it jimi Hendrix or John Mclaughlin - for most of his long time as a first class musician.

Starting of as psychedelic pioneer with Free Spirits and then producing a string of fabuluos jazz/rock albums like At The Village Gate / Live 1971 and Coryell before almost hitting the big time with the splendid Eleventh House. And performing and recording with the likes of Jack Bruce, Wolfgang Dauner, John Mclaughlin, Carla Bley, Gary Burton. But after that he seemed to loose focus and producing a string of rather dissatisfactory albums - except for some forrays into world music, Larry like McLaughlin always been inspired by Indian music.

Here close to the 70 mark he has gone back to his roots and made a magnificent almost psychedelic jazz-rock-soul album. Most of the tracks recorded live in the studio and definitely have a jammy, creative vibe. Mostly going back to the (power) trio format though Chester Thompson (T.o.P., Santana) guests on a few tracks, lifting the spirits even higher. The only thing missing is Larry's vocals!

Like his old partner McLaughlin he seems as vital and inspirated here in is older days. a must for all guitar and fusion lovers.

5.0 out of 5 stars Who says you have to be mellow at 70? August 27, 2013
Format:MP3 Music
Larry Coryell is certainly proving that if there's a fire in your soul that it needs to released and shared. I've loved his work through the years and it's great to see him return to fusion with a vengeance. Note to Jean the reviewer...have your ears checked.

Larry blisters on this cd! Soulful shredding, bluesy and ballsy, traditional to fusion. Aspiring guitarists--listen and learn from a master.

5.0 out of 5 stars Coryell fans PICK THIS UP! June 12, 2014
By Danny C
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
Coryell's "The Lift", release is his best work in a long time. Finally putting out a fusion album that sounds fresh and exciting, that gets better with each listen. Unlike the other two Hive releases that were straight jazz, that can get tedious at times, this is a welcomed release.

Fantastic jazz fusion album. I just wish it was a little longer. Reminds me of the approach the Ginger Baker Trio took twenty years ago. Highly recommended.
