5.0 out of 5 stars This is so cool!
I love this product! It taught me so much about Pirates, and it helped me get an A on a report in school! It showed me that learning doesn't have to be boring, and my little brother who can't read yet liked me to show him and teach him about Pirates, too!

2.0 out of 5 stars Great Idea...Poorly thought out.

My kids and I just broke this opened today and tried to put the Pirate ship together. Before I discuss that process, I would like to say that the little book that it came with was interesting. The rope was fun, the coin was cool, and the compass was ok (little cheaply made-but it worked). Then the trouble begins.

If you have ever done a craft with paper and had to glue tiny pieces together "just so" you know how frustrating that can be for an adult, much less a child of 10-12. To make this challenge even more difficult, the maker's decided to make the ship with super slick, glossy/laminated paperboard (nearly impossible to glue, tape or stick together with anything short of super glue which glues your fingers together as it glues them to the paper)!! I won't even go in detail about how all of that was made even more difficult by the pieces being SOOOOO small. Let the throwing of things begin! (just kidding).

My kids were SOOOO excited to build this, yet it ended in us all wanting to throw the whole thing over the side (we happen to live on a sailboat). What a HUGE disappointment! This could have been a great product, a lot of fun, but I can't recommend it---especially at the price!! I hope this review helps others from enduring the frustration, and keeps them from wasting their money.

3.0 out of 5 stars Nice product, but..., December 27, 2006
This review is from: Lift The Lid On Pirates (Paperback)
My son picked this item out himself to spend some of his Christmas money on. It would be a terrific item and good value except for a couple problems. The model ship was hard to keep together with either glue or double sided adhesive tape as recommended. I think the problem is the shiny finish they put on the pieces. Also, while I was assembling the compass into the box provided the tiny pieces broke off that hold the compass in the side of the compass box, rendering it unusable. I've contacted the manufacturer's customer service department for feedback. Stay tuned for their response... Fortunately my son had also purchased two pirate books which he could continue to enjoy after this disappointment.
