For those craving more futuristic design books, the Robertson works are highly desirable. He's no Syd Mead or Ron Cobb, but his works are slick, and well-rendered. A note of caution however; he is a much better artist of ground vehicles than aircraft. Most of his air vehicles are obviously derived from passenger car sketches, sans wheels. If you have the funds for both of Robertson's books, great. If you can only buy one of them, buy his book on ground vehicles.

I'm no 3d master, but when I wanted to get back into it I was looking for some inspiration. This book didn't let me down. It's filled with mind-bending stuff from really talented people.

Scott Robertson is an educator as well as a designer. That shows in this book, editorially, since he reveals early thumbnail, development sketches and final renderings. If you want to see a designer's process laid bare, here's a helpful resource. Don't forget Scott's Gnomon DVDs, as they further expose his process and techniques.

I'm a big fan of the artist/author. It is a must have for any design enthusiast and nerd who is into product, transpiration and concept vehicles. I/we use this as inspiration for form and proportions when we are designing new products at work.

i was so happy with this item, it was exactly what i wanted and more! the quality is of the highest standard, each page is full of inspiring artwork and concept design; 5 out of 5 stars!

Scott Robertson is an Al Pacino of the Industrial Design world and his work in this book is no less than awesome-sauce. There's no denying this man's skill or creativity. His style has been and is an industry standard for the best of the best. "Lift Off" presents interesting (not necessarily new) air vehicle concepts that the at the very least inspire.

This would be a 4/5 review as i wish there were more images of the early gritty sketches of his ship design process. However i don't believe the intent of this book is to show that, you do see some senseless doodles all the way up to refined and rendered images. This was created to inspire and present forward thinking.

At the very least this book is still great with lots of quality content and worth the buy and show off on your shelf even if you don't even care.

Scott Robertson's unique vehicle designs are applied to things that fly in this book.

You will see the process of firstly small quick rough sketches until he finds a shape and then develops the most liked shapes further. The next step goes into more detailed sketches with full vanishing points laid out.
The final art is then revealed in amazing detail and believability.

If you are learning about concept and design pick this up now, also look at the tutorial videos and other books.

The book is an excellent presentation of art works of Scott but nevertheless it's not a tutorial text or provides any information on how to render your work the way scott does.

I would rate it as a 5 star draw thru collection, and only 1 star tutorial, thats why i am rating this total as 3 stars only the same goes for start your engines and cosmic motors.

If you wanna learn how to render and draw perspective as scott does you gonna have to buy his gnomon dvd collection.

The only Part i didint like about this book, it was
that they are some drawings look like my nephew did it....
Is not an instruction book,
Feels old allready..
