5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Book by an Outstanding Writer
As a board certified plastic surgeon, and author of my own book about cosmetic plastic surgery, one might assume that I would write an unfavorable and possibly harsh review of a book written in my area of expertise by one who is not a plastic surgeon. However, that is far from the case. This book is an outstanding guide, written in an insightful and entertaining style...

3.0 out of 5 stars Author summarizes her experience with second facelift.
I was expecting more from this book. Author seemed more like a Hollywood prima donna and less like the average person seeking cosmetic surgery in the 90s. Things like having general anesthesia, having surgery in the hospital, having a private duty nurse care for her are all unrealistic and unnecesary for the typical patient. She also went off on tangents about the...

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Book by an Outstanding Writer, April 20, 2000
This review is from: Lift: Wanting, Fearing and Having a Facelift (Hardcover)
As a board certified plastic surgeon, and author of my own book about cosmetic plastic surgery, one might assume that I would write an unfavorable and possibly harsh review of a book written in my area of expertise by one who is not a plastic surgeon. However, that is far from the case. This book is an outstanding guide, written in an insightful and entertaining style - so much so that I recommend it to my own patients! Further, Joyce is an accomplished and experienced writer who knows her topic well and presents it objectively. Congratulations on a book well done!

5.0 out of 5 stars Lift, March 4, 2000
By
This review is from: Lift: Wanting, Fearing and Having a Facelift (Hardcover)
Of all the books I have read so far, Joan's "Lift" is one of my favorites. She gives that personal touch to the surgery by describing without glory the tedious days and weeks of after care. When I decide to take the plunge, I will no doubt reread this personal and informing book.Believe it or not, I emailed Joan to tell her how much I liked her book, and she emailed me back with encouragement the next day.

5.0 out of 5 stars Clear explanation of face-lift told in conversational manner, January 26, 1999
This review is from: Lift: Wanting, Fearing and Having a Facelift (Hardcover)
Joan Kron reads your mind as she tells you of her concerns about having a face-lift and then answers them in an intelligent, friendly manner. She has researched the topic thoroughly and is sharing her insights and experience with you. She chats with you while informing you about every aspect of choosing a surgeon, having the operation and recovering. I found the historical background glances into the various procedures to be fascinating and educational. The general tone of the book is optimistic but she states the risks and benefits clearly. Who could have thought such a detailed exploration of surgery could be such an absorbing, fast read?

5.0 out of 5 stars Required Reading for any woman over 30!, November 29, 1998
By
This review is from: Lift: Wanting, Fearing and Having a Facelift (Hardcover)
Bravo! A fascinating indepth look at the historical, emotional and physical sides of cosmetic surgery from the First Lady of the field herself, Joan Kron. Warm and witty, this book is infused with personal experience, candid interviews and never before in print words of wisdom about a subject which fascinates us all. 'Lift' has something offer to any woman (or man) who has ever looked in the mirror and thought 'should I or shoudn't I?', anyone who has ever considered having something done, who has had it and will have it again, or who is just simply intrigued by this fastpaced, constantly evolving specialty. Joan has done her homework, more than any journalist before her. Finally, a book from an author who checks her facts, uncovers the truth, weeds through the hype, does her research and knows what she is talking about. I've bought several for colleagues and friends!

4.0 out of 5 stars informative, gossipy, a real page turner, a must read!, December 6, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Lift: Wanting, Fearing and Having a Facelift (Hardcover)
Since I am not that interested in the topic and have never had any kind of plastic surgery, I was amazed how wrapped up in this book I was! By page3 I could not put it down! It was like a gossipy novel. Not only does Ms. Kron cronicle her own surgeries and her family's reactions, but she explains, techniques, history and fills in the cracks with witty remarks from Famous stars. I would reccomend this book to anyone who likes a good read. This is a must for anyone who's ever had or ever thought about any kind of plastic surgery!

5.0 out of 5 stars Well Written, Fascinating, December 30, 2005
I have a stack of books on this subject, but this is my favorite. Reads less like a medical journal, and more like a novel, while still including all the important information you will need if you're preparing to take the plunge yourself. I found the background on plastic surgery fascinating. This book is very well researched, and wonderfully written. If you enjoy good writing and are looking for a book that's more than surgery descriptions and pictures, this is for you.

4.0 out of 5 stars The Vanity Fair of Face Lifts, February 3, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Lift: Wanting, Fearing and Having a Facelift (Hardcover)
A good book that almost makes cosmetic surgery seem fun. Definitely enjoyable. I decided to go another route, since it still is surgery with all its risks. For those who want to turn back the aging clock, consider my advice, look at facial exercise first. It's easy, safe and works! I read several books on face lifts, plus visited 4 surgeons and they made me realize that cosmetic surgery is still dangerous. I found the Facercise book, video and personal training to be the safest and most effective route for me. It worked!
