5.0 out of 5 stars worked perfectly with a Chamberlain 2280

1.0 out of 5 stars It worked...but then all other remotes didn't

I was able to program the 977LM, but all my other remotes were rendered useless during the new keypad programming process. This review is from: Liftmaster 976LM/977LM 390Mhz Wireless Keyless Entry Pad (Misc.)
Have a Chamberlain LiftMaster Professional model 2280 with "Security+" (just marketing talk for the rolling changing code that all openers have had for 10+ yrs), and an orange learn button (we'll come back to this) on the back of the unit under the rear translucent light bulb cover. The opener manual specifies a 976LM keypad for this unit. This keypad has a 9v battery, lights up, allows an additional temporary code to be set by # of openings or # of hours, and is grayish-cream in color. Two screws to mount the unit, with one mounting hole on the top outside of the keypad and the other behind the battery cover at bottom. Contrary to comments elsewhere: 1) you do not have to hold the buttons down longer to get them to "take" ... I just punch 'em in like any other keypad I've had over the years; 2) it does not take time to reset if you mistype ... it just takes the last 4 digits you entered before pressing Send and reacts immediately if you enter a new set. Nice because you don't have to close and re-open the cover or hit Send if you know you mistyped ... just enter the last 4 digits correctly before hitting Send; 3) the buttons are the common "rubbery" ones on most all openers and they're fine; and 4) you CAN set a temporary code. Now you're going to love this ... the Chamberlain website: a) doesn't recognize a 2280 model # garage opener (I'm staring at it on the cover of the manual and it's stamped on the opener); b) doesn't say anything about a 976LM keypad; c) specifies the 940CB keypad if you have a red learning button, or a 940D if you have a purple learning button, or a 740CB for "older models" (which bringing up the instructions says applies to yellow, grey, green, or white learning button units); and d) ... has no orange button recommendation! Unforgiveable. However, the instructions that actually come with the 976LM keypad clearly say it's for units "with an orange learning button" ... which is what I have ... go figure. Keypads are all $40 on Chamberlain site, so $25 here is a good deal. In summary, simple to install (2 screws), simple to program (press & release the Learn button on your overhead opener, enter a 4 digit code on the keypad, and press & hold Enter on the keypad until your garage opener light blinks), and works fine ... at least for us orange button people.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great, November 27, 2006

This product does exactly what it is supposed to do. Installation is as simple as putting in 2 screws. Programming it takes about 30 seconds. 2 minor complaints I have 1. is that you have to enter the code to get it to close as well as open. 2. It would be nice to be able to assign a temporary code to give a service person or neighbor access while you are on vacation - not a big deal especially considering the great price.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent replacement, December 30, 2008

I bought this as an exact replacement for the original remote. After 9 years, the original remote was working sporadically at best. I would often need to enter the code several times before it worked, and felt the need to push the buttons extra hard as some other reviewers have mentioned (replacing the battery did not help.) The new remote solved all my problems and works perfectly, was well worth the $24.

5.0 out of 5 stars Liftmaster Keyless Entry, April 29, 2010

Works great just as expected. A word of caution. Liftmaster makes several remotes, typically distinguised by the color of the learn button. Do your research before you order. Make sure the remote matches your particular opener model. Unless you check there's about a 1 in 4 chance you picked the right one. The supplier of my unit was great too. Answered my e-mail within hours. All-in-all, a great shopping experience

5.0 out of 5 stars Works great!, October 20, 2011

After much research on which garage door opener to get, and which color button you needed to follow, I found a website that compared the Liftmaster garage doors with other brands, with cross reference of part numbers. It was VERY helpful. I found that it's the Mhz number that you have to watch for. Mine was 390 Mhz, which was different than most of the newer ones. Mine has a red button. Programmed very simply and works great! I am VERY pleased with this product!

1.0 out of 5 stars Know Your Learn Button Color!, December 5, 2011

This review is from: Liftmaster 976LM/977LM 390Mhz Wireless Keyless Entry Pad (Misc.)
I'm giving this item 1 star because of poor documentation in hopes of keeping others from making my mistake.

I have a Liftmaster 1245R garage door opener and the documentation explicitly states that the 976LM/977LM works with it. I even confirmed this with Liftmaster customer support.

Well, it doesn't.

I have a GREEN learn button and the 977LM documentation states you must have an ORANGE learn button.

I ended up having to get a Chamberlain KLIK2U.

And returning the 977LM wasn't practical because of shipping charges and a $10 restocking fee.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wireless Keyless Entry Pad, October 14, 2011

Ordered a wireless keyless entry pad to be able to open and close my garage door from the outside without having to get in and out of my car. I can also briefly leave my house and go for a walk without having to bring my house keys. This wireless keyless entry pad was very easy to program and install. Price was competitive and shipping was fast. Highly recommend this pad and seller to anyone.

4.0 out of 5 stars Must have for every Garage..., December 11, 2010

This review is from: Liftmaster 976LM/977LM 390Mhz Wireless Keyless Entry Pad (Misc.)
I have used one of these for more than 10 years. They work great. The only problem (other than having to change the battery every couple of years) is that eventually the code stops working. This has happened several times to me over the years. Apparently something internally on one or more of the buttons wears out or fails. The solution to fix the problem is to change the code to one that uses numbers that are different from the previous code. I think I am on my third different code at this point.

We use our keyless entry pad many times everyday. It has served us very well over the years... Highly recommended and a "Must Have" for every garage.

I don't know why I waited so long to replace this gizmo. The old one was a pain in the butt. Had to keep pressing the buttons over and over again. This new one works like a charm. Took me literally 5 minutes to install without looking at the instructions.
