5.0 out of 5 stars One of my 1st poetry loves, June 3, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Shel silverstein is one of the reasons I was first in love with poetry. His straightforward, ridiculous, and endearing style is something I will never forget. He has a knack for knowing how to get a childs attention, and sometimes pass a message along without it seeming like a message at all. Not to mention the illustrations alone make each poem come to life in their own way. This is a great book for kids to read on their own because its easy and doesnt have any concepts that are too hard and all the material is relatable to a child. Its also great for a story time because it is so easy to animate the stories and characters in the poems to make it entertaining. A must have for all grade school teachers, and parents who enjoy reading to their children.

The nostalgia factor alone will have you feeling like your a kid again if you read it as a child.

4.0 out of 5 stars My second intro to Silverstein, February 27, 2010
This was the second book I ever read, back when I was in the fourth grade, of Shel Silverstein's. Where the Sidewalk Ends 30th Anniversary Edition: Poems and Drawings was the first one of his that I read, and I enjoyed A Light in the Attic, but not quite as much as Where the Sidewalk Ends. Both are good books and are excellent additions to any bookshelf, whether for adults or children.

Just one of the best books ever written. Light-hearted poetry that will delight the senses and bring out the cheer in even the most surly and cold-hearted individuals. I LOVE this book. Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars classic humor in prose, February 20, 2012

Shel Silverstein is a classic author for all children from 4-94. I remembered enjoying these when ever I picked them up. Now my 4 year old is giddy with laughter and puzzeled at the same time as the short and comical poems take him on short adventures every night before bed time. If you ever read these before enjoy them again they get better with age, if you have never hadthe pleasure you are sure to be amused and intrigued at the simple thoughts and ponder what was his muse to creat such amazing characters and conjur the ideas. Thank you for reintriducing us to friends of old in these one page adventures in fun.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Book; Exceptional Quality, December 22, 2011
I ordered this book as a Christmas gift for my 4-year-old daughter, but when I ordered this I also ordered Where the Sidewalk Ends and Everything On It. I remember reading this and Where the Sidewalk Ends when I was a child, and I'm really looking forward to spending some time reading these with my little girl.

4.0 out of 5 stars Comedy is stored in the attic, May 26, 2011
A Kid's Review
A Light in the Attic is a great book for families, children, and people that have a good sense of humor. A Light in the Attic is a joyful book that can teach some adults lessons on how to treat their children. Whenever or wherever you are, this book will make your funny bone shake. Before I bought this book I wondered what poems would be in it, would they be funny, unusual, scary, offensive, queer, lame,or just plain boring. But ... I was wrong. The poems were enchanting. It will give a bright smile on children's faces from everywhere. I recommend this book to those who have enough junk in the trunk to laugh out loud!
