5.0 out of 5 stars Great for Whole Room Lighting, January 9, 2007
This review is from: Light Box Therapy - SunBox SunRay Light Box Therapy for Season Affective Disorder
Not being a morning person, I am always looking for ways to facilitate my predawn regimen. So, when I stumbled across the SunBox SunRay at the apartment of a friend who happened to be a psychiatrist, I was rather intrigued. Ultimately, I purchased the light box and connected it to an electronic timer so that it would join forces with my alarm clock. It has been a great setup.

In the clinical application, the user is expected to sit within a few feet of the box which would be perpendicular to the ground. This is far too intense for normal use. Instead, I place the box facing the ceiling on top of a bookcase. This arrangement is shown in the customer images at the left. In this position, the entire room is lit up by brilliant full-spectrum light. With the light output of a 500watt halogen torchiere, the Sunray only consumes 140 watts of electricity. Of course, as intended, the light quality is superior to any halogen incandescent.

Unfortunately, the SunBox SunRay has two limitations. The first is cost. At $400, the price is a bit inflated, presumably due to its medical applications. For far less money, you could use 4-5 Feit Daylight100 watt compact fluorescent bulbs. Secondly, the box is a bit large for some applications. But again, it is designed for a patient to sit directly next to it for therapeutic reasons

If you can afford the SunBox SunRay, the light quality is unbeatable. Regardless of the season or the time of day, it will fill an entire room with full-spectrum light that will please you and your guests.

Pros
Brilliant white light
Instant on
Energy efficient

Cons
Expensive
Bulky for some applications

A bit pricey but great. If you can afford it and have the winter blues due to lack of sunlight, then buy it. I give it 5 stars.
