I am not really happy with this bulb. I expected it to be brighter. I wanted it for cross stitching. Arrived in good time and in excellent condition.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice light, April 15, 2006
These bulbs give off a nice, relaxing light that is easy on the eyes. Some things to keep in mind with these bulbs:

Chromalux bulbs are really a normal light bulb that has glass that absorbs certain colors to create a balanced, low glare, high contrast light. Great for reading. But since it is absorbing some of the light, they are not as bright. About 2/3 the light of a stamdard bulb of the same wattage. So a 100 watt Chromalux is about as bright as a 60 watt bulb. A 60 watt Chromalux is quite dim, like a 40 watt bulb, not really bright enough to light up a 10x10 room properly.

Also, the absorbed light is given off as heat. Therefore, they do get noticably hotter than standard bulbs. Best to have a ceramic (not plastic) base, and nothing near the bulb that can burn or melt.

Still, a great bulb anyplace you are going to be doing a lot of reading or detail work.

For general lighting, especially for lights you leave on a lot, I would recommend full-spectrum compact fluorescents. Look for one with a color temperature in the general area of 5000-6000K, and a CRI (color rendition index) of >80. You get a lot of light with very little electricity, and the quality of light is quite good.

5.0 out of 5 stars natural light for your tasks, March 7, 2006
I have been using these bulbs for about 10 years. The full spectrum light is great for painting, and reading. I also believe it improves my mood, during the winter bahs.

The other reviewers mention the nice light this bulb gives off, and talk a little about how it is different from other bulbs. The feature they didn't mention is that they are very long-lasting; on the box it says "Average 5000 Hours," and I believe it. I don't change light bulbs very often at all, which makes them worth the higher price. I recommend these highly.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best incandescent bulb for reading., June 15, 2010
This review is from: Light Bulb Frosted Full Spectrum (60 Watt) 1 Count
Do a test with this bulb and a regular incandescent. Open a book and look at the words with the standard bulb, then change the bulb and look at the text in the book. You'll notice that there is more contrast between the words and the page; they look bolder. I use this bulb in a lamp at my desk and wouldn't go back to anything else.

Yes, they are expensive, but they last forever, it seems. I think they are rated at 5,000 hours. I've had one bulb that I've had for ten years and use it daily.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very long lasting, great quality to the light these emit, March 13, 2011

I installed these bulbs in almost all the lamps in my house in the year 2000. I've noticed that many bulbs are burning out now -- in other words they've lasted about 10 years. I have had a few burn out earlier in lamps that I use constantly, though.

Anyway, the light these emit makes is much more like daylight than your average bulb. Regular bulbs emit a more yellow-colored light, these are more pinkish in color. I tried using a compact fluorescent bulb once, had to turn the light off immediately -- what a horrible color. I know they're expensive, but I think these bulbs are worth the cost.

5.0 out of 5 stars I'm impressed!, August 11, 2010

Great low power bulb. I had my suspicions about a 5 dollar bulb since I am such a miser. When I plugged this in I was not expecting much. Light is very important to me because I tend to keep my bulbs dimmed as opposed to full power. I had been using a regular 100-watt soft white bulb. I have a 4 stage touch dimming lamp, off, low, medium and high. My 100-watt had been buzzing for awhile at low and medium and was driving me crazy. After I put this one in I was surprised that it had no buzzing sound at the medium and low levels, on my dimmer lamp! One very impressive thing about this bulb is it helped me realize my walls are actually off-white as opposed to white. I guess this bulb really brought out the true color of my wall, not sure if thats even a feature but I use to think my walls were white. At my medium and high level setting and because of the wall colors it's almost a summerish kind of color. A white wall would probably reflect true white. The frosting on this bulb is just like in the picture. I only use this for low light so keep that in mind. Should I ever need to replace my ceiling light I would probably get a 100-watt full spectrum bulb of this kind. I am very happy and pleased with this 60 watt version for my low lighting situation.

4.0 out of 5 stars They are lightbulbs, October 13, 2011

They are lightbulbs and definitely light up. As for the difference between them and say GE Reveal, I'd go with the Reveal. These just didn't impress me. However, they do work as advertised and do shine light. I don't know if I see things more richly, call me skeptical.

5.0 out of 5 stars Love these bulbs, August 19, 2011
This review is from: Light Bulb Frosted Full Spectrum (60 Watt) 1 Count
I love these bulbs, and they last forever. I last bought light bulbs in 2008- 6 60-watts and 6 100-watts! I'm finally down to one of each and time to re-order. However, if you buy directly from the Vitamin Shoppe website, they are only $4.99 apiece.
