Editorial Reviews

Joseph just broke up with his girlfriend and is not taking it very well. He thinks she is plotting against him with their mutual psychiatrist. On top of that, his dog is missing and he suspects the people at work might be behind it. Then there is the unshakable guilt over his past. It just might all be bearable, somehow possible to live through, if it weren't for those damned 'monsters' that keep trying to kill him. Through an allegorical 'fable' that is told in parallel with Joseph's struggle, we are left to decide for ourselves in the end, who is the crow and who is the wolf. Is someone Òout to getÓ Joseph or is it all in his head?

3.0 out of 5 stars A great effort that will keep you from going to bed early, May 4, 2011

This review is from: A Light in the Darkness (DVD)
This is one of those movie that you will start watching later at night and next thing you know it 3am.

From the beginning you can see something different in the film quality . It's crisp and not so video looking so it gives it more credibility. I was drawn in by the neighborhood looking familiar . Than I saw some nude jogging dude and that made me laugh so I was in for the rest of the film. I recognized a few familiar faces like jeffrey Lewis and Karen Black. And this really cute women (Troy byer)'. The star was not familiar to me but I think his part was well played in a very real way. It was kinda like watching some kinda off dude among actors.

The story is compelling enough to keep your interest and the dream sequences were really well done. I think his director has some cool tricks. I look forward to seeing him doing more. I'd also like to see the lead actor ( forget his name) in another role to see if he is really tweaked or just a good actor!!! Imm thinking just a realistic actor. We need more of that.

All in all I think people will enjoy this film. If your looking for a period piece or a horror move like the BEGOTTEN(freakiest movie ever), than save your $$$$ but if your like to be entertained, tins might be what your looking for!

2.0 out of 5 stars Half Bad It Is Not. Mmm, Yes., October 1, 2010
This review is from: A Light in the Darkness (DVD)
Surprisingly, A Light in the Darkness is quite the decent film! It certainly won't appeal to the gorehounds or "Extreme!!" horror crowds but it was a strong indie film worth checking out. The acting talent from all involved was heads & shoulders above what one normally expects to see in S.O.V. movies, the production values were solid and the videography better than average. Fact is aside from some wordy, wonky dialogue exchanges, there wasn't much wrong with this! Don't get me wrong...it's not perfect but it held my attention in a way few S.O.V., indie releases do these days.

Two things I found very cool were the well-made dream sequences and disturbing visions being experienced by Taylor Melnick. Come to think of it, I found darn near everything about the character of Taylor Melnick to be extremely interesting. He has this freaky, "Rain Man" type intelligence and clarity mixed with a healthy dose of insanity that worked better than one might expect.

This is definitely worth checking out! It's original and entertaining. If Native American chants, Karen "It's not a Horror Movie" Black and nude beach jogging are your thing, this is going to be your kind of movie! This wasn't exceptionally scary or anything but not much is nowadays.
