When I first started flipping through the pages I was grabbed and intrigued by the color photos. Not being able to actually travel there myself, that was the next best thing.
Usually when I read something that has so much detailed information, I have trouble remembering the details, no matter how good it was or how excited I am about it. I will usually have to read it a few times over.
After reading the first chapter, I not only remembered it, but because of the excellent way it was written, along with the photos, I could almost read it back to you without looking.
I have delved into about a 1/3 of the book and it has already changed how I read the Bible. It gives huge insight into how they lived their daily lives, what the saw around them, and what their culture was like at that time. It helps me better relate to where they are coming from.
Now when I read the Bible, it is more like a movie playing in my head because I can actually SEE and envision what it might have looked like, sounded like, and even the smells.
I cannot WAIT to read this book over and over again. It is truly a treasure to me.
Even my 18 year old loves it, and that in itself is some kind of miracle!

I don't think there is another book in the Christian market that can compare to the study and presentation of this matter. Every page is beautifully laid out and the rich information of its contents makes you want to keep coming back to it again and again. I've only had my copy for about a week but I am completely captivated. I love the study of the book Revelations. For the first time, these scriptures become so easy to understand. I can't recommend this book enough. Everyone needs to read it!

Rick Renner has really outdone himself with "A light in die darkness". I read A LOT, and I can honestly say that I have never seen a book like this. Rick goes into so much detail which is great for someone (like me) who always want to know "why" and "how". Not only the content, but also the quality of the photos and the book itself is fantastic. Well worth the price!

This is more than an encyclopedia of information.... Dr. Renner makes the early church explode off the pages of this book and come to life. He not only explains what happened during the Apostle John's exile to the island of Patmos, Renner explains the background history as well so that we can understand why it all happened. If you think you know about the workings of the early church, think again.... You will be amazed at what you learn. This book is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

I purchased this book for my father. He was thrilled to get it and was blown away by its size and the magnitude of information--it is like an Encyclopedia. He has read the book through and is beginning to read it again. He can't say enough for the research of Rick Renner. Highly recommended read and Amazon was the cheapest place to find this book too! A double blessing!!!

This is a wonderful book. I am learning things and gaining new revelation. It is easy to read and because it is so interesting you want to keep reading. I can't wait for the second part to be written. Everyone should buy this book. I believe every minister as well as lay people can benefit greatly from its content.

Just received my copy of this yesterday. First impressions? This book is HUGE...it's the size of an encyclopedia. I wasn't expecting that at all and I am pleasantly surprised. RIck Renner has done a fabulous job of providing a reference for the time, history and life of the Apostle John and his vision of the exalted Christ. I'm at the beginning where it talks about John's exile to the isalnd of Patmos. I like that Rick Renner hasn't just written a story, but he goes in detail about the time period, the state of the church and the various leasders and their persecution of the early church. It gives a greater appreciation for what Christ did for us.

Well, for THIS dummy anyway! This book is a wealth of information, not only is the Word disected and explained in a whole different way than I'm used to but the info on how they lived their lives, what Paul and others would have encountered when in Ephesus, etc. in addition to the photos. I've yet to read all of it, but I fully intend to. I know Pastor Renner is writing volume 2 as we speak, he says it will be better than Vol 1. Can't wait to get that one too!
