Editorial Reviews

After nearly eight years at the forefront of the electronic music scene, Leeds-based 20:20 Vision recently reached its 100th release. Established by Ralph Lawson, of the legendary Back to Basics club, the label has grown organically to encompass over twenty international artists.

Montreal-based Fred Everything isn’t too far off from 20:20 Vision in reaching his 100th release. With nearly 70 releases under his belt on labels such as Om, Mantis, Shaboom, Grand Royal, Stereo Deluxe, Turbo, and Bombay since his production career began proving over the years to be one of the most talented house producers.

Light of Day is his second 20:20 Vision album, representing some of Fred’s finest work. You will hear influences of reggae, jazz, funk, house and disco while still maintaining the classic Fred Everything sound.

This album is a truly global release, in which Fred collaborates with several different artists, including vocalists such as Rise Ashen, Roy Davis Jr, Judah and Joseph Malik to create an album with unprecedented depth and texture. It is an accomplished, lush, musical album that can stand alongside long players from the likes for Blaze, Truby Trio, Black Science Orchestra and Blue Six.

5.0 out of 5 stars Doesn't disappoint..., March 3, 2006
By
MG (Houston, TX USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Light of Day (Audio CD)
Can't believe I am the first one to write a review about this quality collection of deep, soulful and jazzy house tracks from Canada's finest. I am a huge fan of Fred Everything's music and remixes since years, and this album doesn't disappoint, trust me. I love 'Light Of Day' which comes here in a new remix, featuring the wonderful vocals of Rise Ashen over a bass-driven deep house monster groove. Other standouts include 'Elevate,' a jazzy house instrumental, and of course 'Next To Me' feat. Roy Davis Jr. However, I also have to admit that it's not as good as his first full-length album 'Everything Under The Sun,' which was probably impossible to beat anyway. But then, 'Everything Under The Sun' grew on me over the years, and the same thing could happen with this album...

4.0 out of 5 stars Fred Everything - Light Of Day, February 24, 2011
This review is from: Light of Day (Audio CD)
Fred Everything's second full-length, LIGHT OF DAY, is a solid house album, melodic enough for home listening, rhythmic enough to work in the clubs. Fred Everything here relies more heavily on vocals than on UNDER THE SUN, and the lyrics give the songs nice texture (though often with a disco twist). And while there's nothing bad about the album, only a few tracks really stick out. The electro groove of "Find Your Way" adds some sparkle and the dub reggae feel of "Close to You" bring a necessary splash of variation to the album. The energetic drum breaks of "Elevate" or the Spanish guitar and spoken word of "Our Love" also change things up. But some of it fades into the background, too. Luckily, "That Thang" isn't one of those tracks -- its sexiness stands out. There's still plenty of that Fred Everything magic.
