Book Description

As open minded as she is, private investigator Sasha Jackson feels out of place when her latest case plunges her into the world of commercial sex. A classy madame has hired Sasha to find a missing Mexican hooker, which seems easy enough at first.

Sasha figures out why the hooker ran away but has no idea where she is running to. Besides, how fast can anyone run in stiletto heels? It isn’t until the next body turns up that Sasha realizes why the hooker must choose between fight and flight, and why the choice is so difficult.

Sasha tests her moral compass as she tries to understand the sex trade and what someone will do in a moment of desperation. She is even willing to look the other way, but then Sasha realizes her ass is incredibly hot and the killer is incredibly cold.

REVIEWS

"If you say 'female private eyes in crime fiction', loners like Kinsey Millhone or V. I. Warshawski come to mind. Sasha's a nice counterpoint. It's just easier to relate to Sasha" -HowMysterious.com

"Sasha Jackson is the true literary granddaughter of Sam Spade and Philip Marlowe" -Ellery Queen

"Blood and Groom was a delightful discovery, as it featured the tough-as-nails, but still self-aware and flawed Sasha Jackson as a private investigator uncovering heinous crimes. Dead Light District stays true to the character. Edmondson keeps the tone light with occasional jokes and sarcastic wit, and her series character is worth the attention for those who appreciate contemporary P.I. fiction" Mark Rose, Bookgasm.com

"A missing-person case that goes terribly wrong will have readers chuckling and cringing as they read Jill Edmondson’s latest mystery tale...an intriguing tale. And Edmondson develops it in style with unexpected twists and turns. Jill Edmondson is a writer to watch" -The Guelph Mercury

"There is still the wise cracking Sasha that was present in the first book, along with a cast of interesting characters. I am looking forward to the next book" -Sleuth of Baker Street

“Interesting moral ambiguities get discussed in Dead Light District, and Sasha continues to be an appealing character — growing as Edmondson keeps building her series” –Joan Barfoot, London Free Press

“The book offers an interesting twist on a mystery. While the book is well written, offers solid characters and an interesting plot, the strength of the book is based on philosophical questions and the research that went into telling this fascinating story. Edmondson shows extreme finesse while keeping the story still enjoyable to read and exciting. Five Stars out of Five” -Lynn Farris, National Examiner.com

“This sequel to the amusing Blood and Groom finds Toronto private investigator Sasha Jackson on the trail of a missing Mexican hooker. There’s a decent story here” -Margaret Cannon, The Globe and Mail

"Dead Light District was sure worth the wait. Jill writes great mystery novels. The book flows, but the key to a good plot is a bit of surprise. I didn't suspect the ending. Jill has a surprising way to keep me reading" -Rebecca Emrich, Living a Life of Writing

"Sasha Jackson, is once again solving a mystery with a combination of her intelligence, tenacity, and (amusing!) snarkiness. Dead Light District is a lively and exciting read. I recommend it for those who like a fast-paced mystery with an amusing tone. The story has plenty of humour, quirky characters, and a compelling mystery" -Bookish Magpie

"Fuel for enough action to make Dead Light District ideal for a summer evening." -Don Graves, The Hamilton Spectator

"With the growth of Sasha’s character I am looking forward to the third in the series" -Bill Selnes, Mysteries and More

"Edmondson has created the ideal character in Sasha Jackson—liberal morals, ex-drummer/singer turned PI, single woman who’s sassy and fun. Dead Light District makes the perfect summer read as it speeds along and follows Sasha’s train of thought as she works to solve the case” -Amy Steele, EntertainmentRealm.com

4.0 out of 5 stars Funny and Outrageous as Ever July 28, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
Rookie P.I. Sasha Jackson is hired by a bordello owner to find missing employee, Mary Carmen. Sasha isn't overly excited about this case but she has more bills than income while struggling to build her fledging business. As Sasha delves further into world of prostitutes--including street workers--to try and pick up Mary Carmen's trail, she learns far more than she ever wanted to know about this difficult life.

Dead Light District is a thoroughly entertaining novel that combines humor with the more solemn plight of women in the sex trade. The story humanizes the workers--male and female--without becoming too maudlin or preachy. Parts of the novel had me laughing out loud. I mean, you'll have to read the book to learn why a topless Sasha ends up running down the street with her singed hair still smoking. There were a couple of times where I wanted to shout at Sasha to go to the police, and perhaps a more cautious investigator would. But Sasha's curiosity, independence, and gutsy, take-charge attitude made me realize that she really can't do things any other way. If you want a great, fun read this summer, buy a copy and enjoy. I sure did.

5.0 out of 5 stars 5-Stars ~ Fans of Evanovich are sure to love it! May 23, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
In this second installment of the Sasha Jackson mystery series, Jill Edmondson takes the reader on an engaging ride through Hogtown's red-light district.

I rated it 18+ for some racy language and adult situations. Having said that, I found Dead Light District to be a fun, fast-paced read. Edmondson's characters are smart and sassy, her dialogue is snappy and her situations will make you laugh out loud.

Private investigator Sasha Jackson, singer, drummer and connoisseur of fine drinking establishments everywhere, brings a unique blend of Janet Evanovich's "Stephanie Plum" and Robert Parker's "Spencer" to the page.

I gave Dead Light District "5 Stars" for humor, action, pace and characters that are sure to delight!

4.0 out of 5 stars SHASHA'S RED HOT - RED LIGHT ADVENTURE July 15, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
Sasha Jackson accepts a job chasing down a Mexican Hooker for a local Whore-House Madame and she goes into it not knowing where the contract money is coming from. You can bet Sasha will find out. J. Edmonson writes the biting-ass dialog & quips that Sasha Jackson fans have come to love and enjoy with exquisite style & grace. Lots of detailed sex locations and scenes makes you wonder where the author gets her facts. I would suggest reading the mystery series from the beginning or you will miss out. I never give 5 stars but if Jill E. keeps up with this series - I might! Reading "The Lies Have It" next.

More About the Author

There's a thin line between me and my heroine Sasha Jackson, although I've never worked at a phone sex hotline, and Sasha isn't a language geek. I enjoy bumming around any country where they speak a Latin-based language. I love cheesy, head-banging rock concerts, ice cream and palm trees.

I'm a Cancerian. I live in Toronto.

My reading tastes are varied, but these days they lean towards nonfiction, a mix of history, current events, politics, economics and science. When it comes to fiction, I prefer books that make me laugh; Jasper Fforde and Christopher Moore are two favourites.

I own the two cutest dogs in the world. They are both Maltese, and neither one has any teeth (dental problems are common with this breed, I hear). I got Bella in October 2011. She is 12 years old, very neurotic, weighs 6 lbs, and is very sweet. I got her new boyfriend Chico from an animal shelter in January 2012. He weighs 5 lbs, has a heart condition, and believes that my sole purpose on Earth is to rub his belly!
