2.0 out of 5 stars Another case of too much going on
I quite like the Aisling Grey novels, seeing as how they're comprised of likable and entertaining characters. You desire to see Drake and Aisling together, despite her complete inability to rationally have a relationship, and her overly selfish and unrealistic demands. She may be new to the Underworld, but because of that you'd be thinking she'd be seeking to learn from...

This review is from: Light My Fire (Aisling Grey, Guardian, Book 3) (Mass Market Paperback)
Although these books are almost a yr apart for us, they are only a couple of weeks apart for Aisling.

Aisling Grey, Guardian, Demon Lord, and Wyvern's Mate, is in London, living with Nora, her mentor. She is trying to avoid Drake her mate but naturally he finds her to tell her she is needed at a meeting of the Green Wyverns. Nora is also notified that she must stop tutoring Aisling and is being brought before a board for taking her as apprentice.

Drake is trying to understand her position and promises to let her try to take care of her own problems. When she and Drake are togather there are fires literally everywhere. The romance is very hot.

On her first assignment, Jim eats the king of the imps, now the whole imp nation is after her. Not to mention someone has tried to kill her twice so far. Both Gabrial, the Silver Wyvern, and Fiat, the Blue Wyvern, are back. Who can tell what they are up to? Rene, our mysterious cab driver, is also back.

The members of the Otherworld,in Paris, want Aisling to become Venediger. The Demon Lord, Ariton, who is trying to become Lord of Abaddon snatches her to demand that she vote for him. It seems she has a vote on who will rule Abaddon when Baal steps down. We also learn there is a fifth sept of Wyverns, the Black Sept. Drake is now at war with the Red Sept.

Aisling realizes she needs a book of rules for Guardians, a book of rules for Demon Lords, and especially a book for Wyvern's Mates. What she doesn't know can hurt, or maybe kill her, even if she is immortal.

There is so much more, you don't have a minute to take a breath. It is the best one so far, and if you haven't read the others you need to quickly get them. You don't have to read them in order but they are so much better it you do.

I can't recommend this one enough. I LOVED it. The humor is witty, the romance hot, and the action is unstoppable. Gooo!! Aisling!!! and Katie MacAlister.

The most awful part is waiting for the next one to come out.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fun!, January 1, 2007
This review is from: Light My Fire (Aisling Grey, Guardian, Book 3) (Mass Market Paperback)
This series just keeps getting better. I wish that I had a Drake Vireo in pursuit of me. This is the third book in the series. This is not a stand alone book. The book contained the same crazy cast of characters but added some new aspects to them.

In this book, Jim, the 6th class demon, has eaten the Imp Monarch and now the imps are trying to kill Aisling. Drake has re-entered the picture. Fiat and Gabriel, also wyverns, are trying to get Aisling to be with them.

Aisling is requested by Drake to perform a Green Dragon Sept obligation. It turns out that Drake is asking the green dragon sept for the approval of his mate. Everyone in the sept approves except for his cousin Dimitri. Someone is trying to kill Aisling. There is a new Venediger needed and everyone wants Aisling. Aisling must make peace with the imps, learn to control her dragon fire, be a good demon lord without costing Jim anymore toes, train to be a Guardian, be a mate to Drake, and try to deal with the blue, silver, and red dragon septs. In addition, the red dragons are at war with the green dragons. I love how Aisling handles these problems so nonchalantly. She is so innocent that people think she is dumb. Naturally, she falls headfirst into danger and with her friends somehow wins.

I cannot wait for the next book. Her relationship with Drake is explored in depth in this book. It was wonderful! I laughed out loud during some of the scenes but especially, when she put another demon lord on hold. She decided that he could wait. Just imagine!

If you want to be entertained, love Katie McAlister books, then this book is for you.

4.0 out of 5 stars By Golly, She's a Professional!, November 28, 2006
This review is from: Light My Fire (Aisling Grey, Guardian, Book 3) (Mass Market Paperback)
At least, that's what she keeps insisting throughout the book. No matter how tricky her situation, no matter how convoluted her life becomes I just cannot look away. It's that very reason the character of Aisling Grey continues to entertain with such riveting, side splittingly induced laughter. If ever there was a story of an underdog in paranormal romances, this series is it.

Having recently acquired a mentor in whom to learn all things Guardian, Aisling feels life is finally looking up for her. But then she gets another dose of Otherworld reality upside the noggin and it's back down that slippery slope once more. Once she gets to sliding, it's rather hard for Aisling to stop too. After coming to terms with the stoic Drake, wyvern of the green dragons and her mate, she's ready to take on the responsibilities it entails. Dragon politics are never pretty though and when imps run amuck, demons from Abbadon begin demanding impromptu meetings, and even more prestigious positions in the Otherworld open up to her, it's all Aisling can do to keep her pet demon Effrijim fed and up to date on his walkies.

The one irritant about this series to date is Aisling's continued ignorance. Granted, she's not had much time to get on her studies, but a little boning up on the basic running of the Otherworld would gain her tremendous resources and a little common sense. How she has managed to survive so far with all her bungling is amazing. And therein lies the crux--it just wouldn't be the same Aisling if she were indeed wiser to the happenings around her. This third installment continues on the first two's tradition of non-stop laughter and incredible situations that will leave readers gasping to see how she gets out of current situations. I feel even though she is the main character in the story, she is somewhat of an underdog due to her lack of knowledge about the Otherworld. If she was as knowledgeable as she possibly could be, man oh man she'd be astounding.

The secondary characters that have carried throughout so far, Rene, Jim the demon hound and Drake make each installment that much more a delight to read. I do believe Jim, who is usually the comic relief, is my favorite character of the series with the best lines to boot. Drake, as heroes go, is handsome, very alpha, yet not nearly in focus as our flawed Aisling, but this is a first person novel. Their relationship does gain some positive ground in this installment, but anything can happen in the Otherworld, especially with Aisling in the mix. As always, the incredible events told in this one have opened many new possibilities for Aisling's next set of Guardian adventures. Can't wait to see what she tangles up next!

4.0 out of 5 stars Light My Fire, November 7, 2006
This review is from: Light My Fire (Aisling Grey, Guardian, Book 3) (Mass Market Paperback)
Aisling Grey never asked for all the complications in her life, but now she hopes to straighten things out and simplify a bit. Following the latest unwelcome surprise sprung on her by her Wyvern mate, Drake, she moves to London with the intent of being mentored as a Guardian. Drake is not supposed to be in London. She's left Draconian politics behind, or so she thinks. In a trice, her mentor is banned from mentoring, their apartment is burned down, Aisling's pet demon, Jim, has incurred the wrath of all imps everywhere, and the political situation mushrooms. Not only does Aisling have to worry about how the dragons wrestle for power, but she's been nominated for a job she does not want and there is a demon lord demanding her loyalty. Moreover, Drake, along with all the other Wyverns, is in London, adding all the emotional baggage he comes with to the mix. What's more, his mother hates Aisling.

**** Aisling's world is a fascinating one. Every time you learn something new about it, the knowledge raises more questions. Who says humor can't have an element of intrigue? Someone who has never read Katie MacAlister, I suppose. This book combines romance, humor, and intellectually intriguing concepts. Treat yourself to it. ****

This review is from: Light My Fire (Aisling Grey, Guardian, Book 3) (Mass Market Paperback)
love this character. She's very innocent and yet people keep piling on duties. Aisling fights off having two more titles and loads of responsiblities in this book at the same time trying to be a good mate to Drake and learn how to be a Guardian. Through all this, someone is trying to kill her. I think this is such a light, funny, carefree book, and like other reviewers I'm anxious to read more. I hope MacAlister doesn't put this series on the backburner again.

5.0 out of 5 stars Silly Fun Series, July 9, 2007
This review is from: Light My Fire (Aisling Grey, Guardian, Book 3) (Mass Market Paperback)
I love this series. It is definitely popcorn and chocolate not fine wine. That is what makes it so great. It is silly. It is very easy to read. The dog is a great side kick. He constantly makes me laugh. This book is fun to read. It is never a chore to read.

In this edition we learn a lot more about all of the characters. We especially get a final understanding about who or what Jim is as well as who Rene is.

My only complaint is that like her previous two novels, this one is just too short. Well not really but it leaves me begging and wishing for more. I can not wait for the next one to release. I always preorder this series well in advance from Amazon to ensure its prompt arrival on my door step.

4.0 out of 5 stars getting there...., May 10, 2007
By
This review is from: Light My Fire (Aisling Grey, Guardian, Book 3) (Mass Market Paperback)
So this is book 3- I've read all three- in order- over the past few months. There is a lot I like about these books, I've enjoyed reading them, and look forward to more.

But- and you heard that coming- It's starting to feel like the story isn't really going anywhere. Don't get me wrong- there's action, and things keep adding in to the trials and tribulations- but it's becoming circular. It seems like Aisling hasn't made any progress, she's still just reacting to things- which is mentioned in the book. As frustrating as it is for the main character, it's becoming even more so for the reader.

Hopefully the next book in the lineup will get us going in the direction I'm hoping for, and we'll get to see more answers then questions.
Again- I enjoy them, I will read the next one, I just have high hopes.

4.0 out of 5 stars Loved it! Another entertaining Aisling Grey, Guardian novel!, March 5, 2007
This review is from: Light My Fire (Aisling Grey, Guardian, Book 3) (Mass Market Paperback)
It's been a long time since I read the second installment of MacAlister's Guardian novels (I think it's called Fire Me Up) and had waited patiently for the third novel to come out. After getting it, it sat on my TBR pile for some time while I reread some classics. Having now read Light My Fire, I wish I had read it sooner. I love the fact that the author keeps you in suspense as to what is coming next. Aisling Grey is a Guardian, a demon lord, a wyvern's mate and an immortal (the latter of which is thanks to being a wyvern's mate). She and her demon dog Jim have moved to London to start over and receive lessons from Nora, her mentor. She is also determined to forget about her dragon mate Drake and his betrayal. But soon, unbeknown to her, she realizes she is in big trouble. Someone wants to kill her. It has to do with dragon politics she doesn't know much about. The red dragons have declared war against Drake and they are using Aisling as bait. Also, another demon lord wants her help and is determined to get it whether she wants to help him or not. She again faces Drake. Will she be able to resist the gorgeous green dragon? But being with him will mean facing another conundrum -- her mother-in-law doesn't like her. On top of all of that, Jim is still a pain in the bum. He eats the imp monarch and now all of the imps of the world want revenge. There are several twists throughout the novel.

This is as much fun and entertaining as the previous two Guardian novels. I love the feisty heroine (a MacAlister heroine that I actually like!) and all of the characters in the book. You get to read about Jim, Fiat and Rene, the enigmatic cab driver who is always at the right place at the opportune time. To those of you who were frustrated with the fight between Aisling and Drake in Fire Me Up, I am happy to inform that the author doesn't drag out this storyline. Drake is as dark and sexy as he was in the previous two books. MacAlister wants us to believe there could be a possible future between Aisling and Fiat or Gabriel, but I do hope she doesn't go in that direction. Drake is wonderful and I'd like to continue to see him as the male lead. (I cannot resist a man with dark hair and green eyes.) There is nonstop action and there are new twists that let us know that this series will continue to be interesting in future installments. This is a great paranormal series. I like the concept of dragons. It is a refreshing change of pace from the usual creatures like vampires and werewolves. This series is not dark or too scifi-ish as the works of Kelley Armstrong, Jim Butcher, Laurell K. Hamilton, Rachel Caine and Kim Harrison, but it's a more comic paranormal romance along the lines of MaryJanice Davidson's Undead and Un-something series, only this one isn't limping along like the aforementioned series. It is great fun. So, if you enjoyed You Slay Me and Fire Me Up, you will love Light My Fire. I guarantee it. :)

4.0 out of 5 stars Good series with serious potential, December 31, 2006
This review is from: Light My Fire (Aisling Grey, Guardian, Book 3) (Mass Market Paperback)
I really like this series and believe it is worth your investment and time. Aisling Grey is a bit of a whiner, but she has potential. Her companions (a demon in the shape of Newfoundler dog) and her love interest, who happens to be a dragon. are great. The plot line and dialogue keep you interested in the story even when you want to smack Aisling for being so self-absorbed.

Katie...if you read this, I hope you wake Aisling up to her full potential. I look forward to the next installment.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent., November 7, 2006
This review is from: Light My Fire (Aisling Grey, Guardian, Book 3) (Mass Market Paperback)
Aisling "Ash" Grey is a demon lord, a Guardian, and a wyvern's mate all at once. She never asked for it all and wants nothing more than for her life to slow down and ease up a bit. She moves to London expecting to be mentored by Nora Charles. Instead, Ash's life (once again) begins spinning out of control. Nora is given an order prohibiting her from acting as a mentor to Aisling. Jim, Ash's demon sidekick in dog form, has accidentally eaten the ruler of the imps so now the imps are after them. Ash is a candidate for a dangerous job that she does NOT want. (She has more than she can handle already.) There is another demon lord breathing down her neck and to top it all off Drake shows back up to summon her to attend a mandatory synod of the green dragons. What else can possibly go wrong?

***** The setting may have changed a bit, but the story is still going strong. This gem will keep you up well past your bedtime and turning pages at lightning speed. Excellent! *****
