Does not resemble the novel it is based on., March 22, 2000

The Walt Disney film version of "The Light in the Forest" has little in common with the message and tone of the Conrad Richter novel it is allegedly based on. I will not go into any details, but will state that this movie is a complete butchery of the classic story of a white boy raised by Indians and torn between the ties of blood and loyalty. If you love the novel then avoid this movie. If you're trying to cheat on an English exam by watching this movie instead of reading the book then you will fail your test. If you have not read the book or are ambivilent towards it then you just may enjoy this movie as a mild piece of Disney escapism similar to "Davy Crockett: King of the Wild Frontier" or "The Parent Trap."

Here are some ways of telling how the novel and the movie is simular. One way they are simular is because they both have the same settings. Another way they are simular is because they had the same charactors. The last way I think they are simular is because True Son acted the same way in both the novel and the movie. These are some ways the novel and the book are simular.
There are also many ways they are different from each other.
One way they are different from each other is because in the story it said that True Son didn't know how to speak english he only knew how to speak Delaware. Another way they differ from each other is because in the story it said when True Son arrived the first time that his biological mother was sick. They are also different because in the movie True Son and Uncle Wilse got into two fights. The last way they are different is because in the story it never mentioned anything about True Son and Shenandoe falling in love but in the movie it did. Those were some ways they were different.

I have seen the movie and read the book. I liked the book better. The reason is because the movie was not like the book. I liked the book because the book does not have any love scenes in it. The movie has Shenandoe instead of Gordie. And in the book Cuyloga seems younger than he looks in the MOVIE. And Aunt Kate seems nicer in the movie than in the book. I would think that people should watch the movies then read the book.

Disney, Please Release This on DVD!, February 14, 2011

This is too much of a gem of film to let it linger in the Disney vaults! Disney, please release this on DVD, even if you have to do so as a Disney Movie Club Exclusive!

I do not like the movie. The book was better than the movie. In the movie a girl named Shenandoe was in place of Gordie from the book. Most of the people that were in the book were not in the movie. The movie was so boring I almost fell asleep on the movie. In the book TrueSon could not speak english, but he started to talk english in the movie. Myra did not look sick in the movie, But in the book the author descirbed her as very sick. TrueSon never taught Myra how to speak Deleware in the book. For the first time TrueSon kissed a girl. That girl was shenandoe. Another girl named Millie fell in love with Del. Shenandoe fell in love with TrueSon. He never said he wanted to be a caucasian man. TrueSon knew that Harry Butler was his father. The book was way better.

The movie sums up to the novel but movie had a different ending. at the end of the movie True Son seemed to be getting married. I think that they should have them get married in the film. The book gave more information. If they were to make another movie with the same information as the book then it would be a better relationship. I pick 3 stars because the book had more information and details than the movie. My concluding sentence is that the book has a bad relationship with the film. please make a newer and more info and details film.

The movie and the book are different from each other. It is different because there were scenes in the book that didn't happen in the movie. Aiso things that were different from the book. I liked the movie better because I got to see what the characters actually looked like and what the setting looked like. Also there were some characters that were taken out of the movie amd replaced with new ones. Another thing is the setting was a little different because True Son didn't own his own land in the book. My last two thoughts are that one time the indians would be talking Delaware and then the next minute they would be talking English. Also True Son didnt fall in love with a girl.

I have seen and read both the book and the movie, in my opinion the book is better but the movie is funnier. The movie left out some people like Gordie, to put in some people like Shenandoe. I think the movie would be good for old people but the book would be good for young people.

The Light in the Forest movie didn't compare to the book that well . There's no Gordie. There is a girl that True Son falls in love with instead. I like the movie better, it's faster than a long book and the movie has pictures . I like the movie better but you can choose the one you like best .

I really couldn't get into!, December 23, 2004
A Kid's Review
This review is from: The Light in the Forest [VHS] (VHS Tape)
I really think you shouldn't get the movie. I would rather get the book even though it would be a long or medium book to read. I actually believe that instead of watching the boring movie you should read the novel. Why is because when you read the book it makes you not want to put the book down. But if you watch the movie it will put you right to sleep. Also if you read the book it will have interesting characters that are not even in the movie. The movie is nice but it has different events and characters. Another thing is it doesn't really bring the picture out on how that person should really look. The book and the movie are just like hot and cold-opposites.
