In the league of such live albums as the 1971 Allman Brothers Filmore East, 1976's Peter Frampton Comes Alive, 1980 Grateful Dead-Dead Set. A Quenticential CD that will stay in the player. When I listen to this CD it makes me want to quit my "real" job and move to the Rockies to a dude ranch, Widespread is so powerful with their jams that all you want to do is sit back with a cold beer. I don't know about everyone else, but don't put this CD in while your driving, the intro to Porch will get you a speeding ticket, next thing you know you're driving about 90. Anyway, a must buy, must have CD because it never will get old, these guys were born to play. The thing that would top everything is a guest appearance by Greg Allman and Jaimoe from the Allman Brothers, could you imagine a percussion jam by Domingo Ortiz and Jaimoe? Wow!!!

Excellent representation of their live shows. It rocks! A definite must-have for any panic fan. Buy this one before any of the the others (if it's your first purchase), it has great songs from many of their albums.

Light Fuse Get Away, the band's sixth CD release) is Widespread Panic's first live concert release, and it is without a doubt their best recording to date. Most of the cuts are 6 to 10 minutes long and all of them jam. It's hard to isolate one tune as being outstanding from the rest - it is that even a collection. Widespread Panic has an original sound - you might be able to pick out influences - Lynard Skinnard, Allman Brothers, Grateful Dead, Little Feat - so it's hard to say what kind of music they play: driving rock n' roll, southern rock? Like the Grateful Dead and Allman Brothers, Widespread Panic plays as an ensemble, melding their individual sounds into a group sound, and are at their best when up on a stage trying things out. When the band cooks the whole place heats up. If you're not familar with Widespread Panic this would be an excellent CD to start with. Then go back and get the rest, beginning with Space Wrangler (the band's first release). Why only a #9 rating instead of a 10? Gotta give them something to strive for.

I had listened to Panic a few times before, but on a road trip by myself I happened to put this CD into the player and "heard" Panic for the first time. I got chill bumps when the first few chords of Porch Song were strung. Their music is stimulating and beautiful. Every time I listen to this album I feel like I'm hearing it for the first time again. I can't see a reason why everyone wouldn't love this music. A very talented group who are dedicated to their fans, and haven't sold out to promote their music. I'm proud to be a Spreadhead and this album is the reason. Having a good time, sittin' around watching the sun shine.

One of my favorite of all widespread albums. Although they are much better to see live, when listening to these songs with long jams inbetween you lose every sense of urgency and relax into the tranquil world of the music with JB and Houser leading their sound. The album is terrific.... but if you are going to spend money on a widespread album you haven't heard before i recommend Live In The Classic City... which is a show in Athens, Ga. It is incredible and shows their true eclectic lyrics and phenomenal sound with a large variety of all of their different songs. But if you do not have Live In The Classic City I would recommend this as well as the New Bonnaroo CD.

I purchased this CD about 6 months ago and in that time i have probably listened to it over 150 times. I had been lightly exposed to panic during my high school days, but when I attened college I made a good friend who was a huge fan of panic. he introduced me to them in detail and since them I have fallen in love with them and especially the late great guitarist Michael Houser. HOuser had a very unique style that had a ligerning effect due to the delay which he always used in his rig.I have read reviews here that say that john herman's keybaords are sub-par in my opinion this is far from the truth. Herman I beleive has a wonderful style using organs and keyboards much in the way of former GRateful Dead keyboardist Brent Mydland. The highlights of these disks in my opinion are Space Wrangler, Impossible and Greta. The jam at the end of Space Wrangler is the best example of Houser's ability to blow your mind with his unique style and just make you want to boogie. the intro to impossible is head shaking hard rocking music that just sets up for another great tune. In my opnion if you are interested in this cd buy it before another panic cd to have some feel for the majesty of thier live shows.

Widespread Panic is one of those bands who have put out good records but is really at their best is a live setting. These two discs feature many extended jams that only add to what was done in the studio. Although the songs are generally long, they are never boring because the rythm section keeps things tight and always in a steady groove. These songs do not meander. They lock into a groove and hold it there so that the solos are alowed to breath. It's quite a bit of music to sit through, but it holds up with repeated listenings. If your a fan of live recordings ang long jams, this is a good band to check out.

When first introduced to WSP in 1988 by a friend from Athens, GA, the only live Widespread was bootleg tape. Most of these were recorded in bars, and quickly I knew it was high time to see what this band was all about. Being able to se WSP for $3 or less was amazing, but to hear them live on tape was always a pleasure. Now, with their FIRST LIVE ALBUM to date, you can catch this band in full-tilt boogie anytime you like. So, as a fan whose been around since day one, if you've been there with us you know what a jewel this album is, and if you're thinking about getting your feet wet in a little panic, this album is certainly right up there with any Panic show I've seen live. Song Selection, Performance, and Sound Quality are all exceptional; accept no substitues, throw on the quality headphones and feel the jam - it's all there. Finally. Thanks boys, we appreciate it.

Widespread Panic is the best of the post Dead jam bands. On this albumn, a double live set, they are heard they way they are meant to be. Widespread have been touring constantly from their home base of Athens, Ga. since the late 80's and show no sign of slowing. As a matter of fact they are constantly adding dates to a packed touring schedule. "Lite Fuse" is a collection of origanals and a few covers from the bands huge song playlist. Their music really defys description. they have been pidgeon holed as a southern rock band in the past. Some call them a jam band which is mostly true. However a listening of their studio work from the past decade may leave you scratching your head trying to pinpoint influences. It's all there really. The blues, certainly southern rock, metal but also jazz, latin influences and even a touch of bluegrass at times. The studio albumns are certainly gems but it is live where Widespread shines. Never more so than here. If you get a chance, and the opportunity will arise, (sooner or later they will play somewhere near you) you need to experience a Panic show. It is what they do best and better than almost everyone.

Took a gamble on buying this cd. I had never heard of them before, but was looking for something new to listen to. I was quite impressed with the reviews so I brought a copy. And I was mightily impressed with what I heard! It is so good in this day and age to hear a band that will not conform to industry standards. A real live jam band. My only criticism is that some of the songs almost don't fit in with the overall impression of what they could be like/should be like. There are crankers like Porch Song, Travelling Light, Impossible/Jam etc. But sometimes I wonder why they play something really awesome then the next song is a real sleeper! To me, with a band like this, on an album like this, it should build from start to finish and not go up and down so much in tempo. Other than that little complaint I was impressed with the band and album enough to recommend it to anyone who likes Southern Rock with a difference! And shame on you America for keeping this band a secret for so long!
