5.0 out of 5 stars Another MASTERPIECE for Kim Carnes
If it was possible, I'd give this album 10+ stars. Clearly her management
or her label was tired of waiting for another chart topper like 'Bette
Davis Eyes' and MISTAKEN IDENTITY. Oddly, the EMI-America label vanished
into oblivion a year or so after this release.

Hard to find on CD...was lucky on Ebay once, thank god. Interesting effort. "Divided Hearts" is gorgeous---almost Ronnie Spector-ish in the vocal inflections. "Piece of the Sky" has a great melody, and the closing "That's Where the Trouble Lies" is classic eerie Carnes. My favorite line "the user never knows how much the drug shows..." So true...

5.0 out of 5 stars Another MASTERPIECE for Kim Carnes, March 17, 2007

If it was possible, I'd give this album 10+ stars. Clearly her management
or her label was tired of waiting for another chart topper like 'Bette
Davis Eyes' and MISTAKEN IDENTITY. Oddly, the EMI-America label vanished
into oblivion a year or so after this release.

It took a while for the opening track 'Divided Hearts' to grow on me. It
was the only chart single from this album, stalling in the low 70s
region of the Hot 100 singles chart.

The follow-up was 'I'd Lie To You For Your Love', a country song that
just didn't sound like it should have been a single (in my opinion) or
really belong on this album at all.

From tracks 3 thru 10, it's all great. If only sound samples were
available for this album. Here are my top picks from this album---

*Black & White (was a B-side) - A pleasant look back on a relationship
that's ended. This one has a long intro and ending. Features a saxophone
before and after verses, the middle and ending.

*Love Me Like You Never Did Before - A rocker. The last chance to fix a
relationship. The music and her vocals on this one is awesome, excellent
guitar solo in the middle of the song.

*Along with The Radio - Adult Contemporary flavor here. Memories come
flooding back while driving the car through the parking lot, with the
radio on. Beautiful melody and excellent vocal performance.

*Piece Of The Sky -- for me, one of those tracks you could put on repeat,
and just listen to it over & over. Each time, getting a little more
from it. Great song about NOT getting fenced in, slowed down, or
allowing anything to stand in the way of your 'piece of the sky'.

*You Say You Love Me (But I know you Don't) -- Very unique recording with
mainly acoustic guitars, 'echo effects', harmony vocals, well written
lyrics and excellent vocal performance.

**Serious Kim Carnes fans know how rare this CD is, and is a 'must own'.
ALL Kim Carnes fans should consider searching the web for EMI-Capitol
Music Special Markets website, and sending the company an email
requesting a reissue of this CD.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very enjoyable all the way through., December 17, 2009

For the price of a used copy of this album on CD, you can buy a well preserved vinyl copy and a USB equipped turntable to play it on!

Well, I've already got a high-end turntable, so I found a new copy on vinyl for a little over ten dollars and gave it a spin. Yup, it's a very good album indeed; a prime example of that 80's era Kim Carnes rock style. No big hit's like "More Love" or "Bette Davis Eyes", but some catchy and beautiful tunes nevertheless.

This album is certainly worth acquiring, but I would shop around a bit if you see used CDs selling for over a hundred bucks. You don't have to pay that to hear this album.

5.0 out of 5 stars 5 stars all the way..........., January 20, 2007

Kim Carnes is truly one of the most talented singer/songwriters in music history. She has a great catalogue to choose from. Lighthouse has always been one of my personal favorites. I believe in this album so much, that I spent $300.00 on a copy from ebay. It is perfect from start to finish. That's where the trouble lies is incredible, You say you love me but I know you don't-Everyone has been there, Piece of the sky, Divided hearts-which was the single that somehow did not make it to the top of the charts. The only reason for the under performance of this album is due to the public and the music industry expecting so little from their art. After Kim, came New Kids on the block, Debbie Gibson, and Tiffany. Wow... and it continues to spiral downward. If you like great songwriting and a very cool voice, this artist is the one to listen to. Also, check out her newest cd " Chasin Wild Trains". Another Carnes masterpiece.....
