Product Description

Product Description

Fire building made easy, the pure and natural way. Don't build your fire with noxious fumes or harmful chemicals. Use the time-honored, organic method. A technique that resembles the centuries-old art of the native fire-builder. From the heart of the ancient Mayan Empire comes the remarkable product known as MayaDust. MayaDust is made from Pino de Ocote, a fatwood pine cultivated in the highlands of Guatemala and Mexico. With 80% resin content, MayaDust is easy to light, even when wet and produces an extremely hot flame. Use a pinch to quickly light your campfire. MayaDust is shavings from MayaSticks packed in a convenient water proof tin that is easy to carry in your pocket or backpack. Gives maximum heat energy for minimal weight. Use MayaDust together with Swedish FireSteel to light your campfire with ease.

5.0 out of 5 stars Mayan Fatwood-Best thing for starting campfires, August 8, 2007
By jimnypivo "Jim Hisson" (west of Chicago, USA) - See all my reviews

I got some of this Mayan Resin-wood and a magnesium fire stick at a Sporting Goods Show a few years back.

Shave a few splinters off the chock-full of resin sticks, and you are cooking quickly. The snuff-can has that already done for you, but you need additional tinder if you want your fire to last. Also, if you have trouble finding burnable material, one of the Mayan firesticks will burn strong and last quite a long time.

This came in handy more than a few times on damp and wet conditions while camping with my sons' Scout Troop.

These Mayan sticks are FAR superior to Georgia or Alabama fatwood. I bought mine in Tennessee!

They are also great to keep in the car with some tinder and matches for those 'just in case' situations.

1.0 out of 5 stars Complete waste of money!, May 13, 2008
Not really worth it at all! I wasted 1/4 of a Swedish Firesteel trying to get some of it to burn. And that was in perfect conditions in my garage at home. Cotton balls work better, and they're A LOT cheaper! I will never purchase it again.

3.0 out of 5 stars NOVELTY PACKAGING!!!, March 18, 2008
By Loraximus (North Las Vegas, NV United States) - See all my reviews
This looked perfect for my daypack emergency kit. I actually bought this for the little snuff box, (who's gonna pay $4 for wood shavings?), turns out it holds only 1 oz. and it's PLASTIC! Under GOOD conditions that amount might start 2-3 fires. Had it been metal, adding an O-ring would keep it's contents dry. I could've got the sticks & made much more for same price!
