Time to flick your .... Cellphone?,
By Amanda Richards (Georgetown, Guyana) - See all my reviews (VINE VOICE) (TOP 500 REVIEWER) (HALL OF FAME REVIEWER) (REAL NAME)
This review is from: Light On (MP3 Download)
The first single from David Cook's upcoming post-Idol album is a big monster ballad, which evokes memories of eighties rock groups like Whitesnake, Europe and The Scorpions. It was co-written by Chris Cornell (Soundgarden & Audioslave) and features the obligatory arena-filling soaring chorus that will have older music fans flicking their Bics, and younger folk lighting up their cell phones.Whether this "lighting up" was what the writers had in mind or not, the song is about someone going through a break-up, but still doesn't want to rule out the possibility of reconciliation in the future. "Sometimes it feels like we've run out of luck When the signal keeps on breaking up When the wires cross in my brain You'll start my heart again" In the event of a change of heart, he begs his partner to: "Try to leave a light on when I'm gone Something I rely on to get home" This song is perfectly suited to Cook's voice and style, and promises much for the album. If there are more songs like this on the album, I'm going to have to make sure that my cell phone is fully charged. Amanda Richards, October 10, 2008

Awesome First Single!,
By WissPhoto (Georgia, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Light On (MP3 Download)
This song has everything in it that you love about David Cook. High soaring vocals, husky tones, clear diction, chills when he sings only with the piano and a couple of wails thrown in for good measure. David is singing his heart out on this single. As usual, his emotions are at the forefront for his fans to enjoy. I can't wait for the album to drop in November.
