5.0 out of 5 stars Time to flick your .... Cellphone?
The first single from David Cook's upcoming post-Idol album is a big monster ballad, which evokes memories of eighties rock groups like Whitesnake, Europe and The Scorpions. It was co-written by Chris Cornell (Soundgarden & Audioslave) and features the obligatory arena-filling soaring chorus that will have older music fans flicking their Bics, and younger folk lighting...

2.0 out of 5 stars Maybe I could give him a second chance
I liked his first song, time of my life. It was good, and I thought that maybe the idol would go the way of something like Tyrone Wells, but his second release does sound distorted, like its not even his real voice. He sounds better as a balladeer, but thats just my opinion. I just have to see how his album is to give him a fair chance. If he continues to sound like the...

5.0 out of 5 stars Time to flick your .... Cellphone?, October 10, 2008
This review is from: Light On (MP3 Download)
The first single from David Cook's upcoming post-Idol album is a big monster ballad, which evokes memories of eighties rock groups like Whitesnake, Europe and The Scorpions. It was co-written by Chris Cornell (Soundgarden & Audioslave) and features the obligatory arena-filling soaring chorus that will have older music fans flicking their Bics, and younger folk lighting up their cell phones.

Whether this "lighting up" was what the writers had in mind or not, the song is about someone going through a break-up, but still doesn't want to rule out the possibility of reconciliation in the future.

"Sometimes it feels like we've run out of luck

When the signal keeps on breaking up

When the wires cross in my brain

You'll start my heart again"

In the event of a change of heart, he begs his partner to:

"Try to leave a light on when I'm gone

Something I rely on to get home"

This song is perfectly suited to Cook's voice and style, and promises much for the album. If there are more songs like this on the album, I'm going to have to make sure that my cell phone is fully charged.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome First Single!, September 30, 2008

This song has everything in it that you love about David Cook. High soaring vocals, husky tones, clear diction, chills when he sings only with the piano and a couple of wails thrown in for good measure. David is singing his heart out on this single. As usual, his emotions are at the forefront for his fans to enjoy. I can't wait for the album to drop in November.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great song, great artist!, October 6, 2008
This review is from: Light On (MP3 Download)
This song is awesome. David has it all going, like WissPhoto (hope I got that right) said. I wanted to add something about the actual words themselves. Although it wasn't written by David, it could have been written for his brother. It could have been written for someone who's loved one is going overseas in the military. Or your own interpretation of something in your life. That's the beauty of it, the words are magnificent and the way David sings them can make you feel the emotion within those words - which is what a great singer does.

I love this song. It has a catchy chorus, but a sort of haunting sound to the verses which I really love. I can't wait for the album.

This song is a nice transition song for Mr. Cook from Idol to the rest of the world. It shows off his great vocal range and also appeals to a great range of people--women, girls, guys and even the "mature" rock fans! Nice Job!

Catchy and radio friendly, it looks like "Light On" will be burning up the charts pretty soon. Good choice for a first single.

He sounds better as a balladeer, but thats just my opinion. I just have to see how his album is to give him a fair chance. If he continues to sound like the lead singer of Hinder, I wont even give him a second thought. Sadly it seems that this type of thing happens a lot.

4.0 out of 5 stars Love DC but... this song is DISTORTED!!, October 2, 2008
This review is from: Light On (MP3 Download)
Like the song, love DC. It's unfortunate that this track is so distorted. By the time you get to the chorus, it's really bad.
