NOT the same Celtic Thunder as the DVD,
By BDenz "Barbara" (Poulsbo, WA USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Light of Other Days (Audio CD)
While this is a good album, this is not the same Celtic Thunder group as the all-male cast currently on the Public TV concert circuit. If you want that production, do not get this album. If you just like Celtic music, order away.

Pay no attention to the one-star reviews,

This review is from: Light of Other Days (Audio CD)
The one-star reviews are from people who ordered this in error, thinking it was that new celtic-flavored mainstream all-male band.
No offense to fans of that Celtic Thunder, but they're too mainstream pop and overproduced and just too...too....boy-band for my tastes. THIS Celtic Thunder was a Baltimore-based Irish band in the 80s, that I believe is no longer around. (I could be wrong; somebody check on that?) They weren't a stadium act, they played the pubs and festivals and had a rollickin' time. They were down-to-earth Celtic, with loads of soul and authenticity, with songs about the hard times of immigration as well as joyous dance pieces and wry reflections on relationships. This CD may not sound as lavish or big-budget, but considering it was first recorded by a minor label in the 80s, it sounds pretty good. My favorite track is their version of the classic "Oft in the Stilly Night" which always has me wanting to sing along. This is folksy, earthy music, the kind you go to a pub to hear, and have a great time with. They have another CD, out of print, simply called "Celtic Thunder" with a black-and-white cover; if you like this, look for that one as well.

Wonderful,

I went to see this band in the early '90's. This is a wonderful and timeless collection of music. Some of it is traditional and some modern. Absolutely buy it.
