A little girl and small white dog wandering the beach discover the story of the starfish who are born from stars to play upon the ocean. When the stars become tired and lonely for the sky, their light returns to the heavens to shine upon earth. This comforting fable reaasures and sustains both children and adults in times of loss and grief.

About the Author

Phyllis Glowatsky holds a masters degree in social work and, as a therapist, worked extensively with children and families. Her father died when she was two years old. She has always believed that he is with her. 3.0 out of 5 stars A Spectacular Journey Through Grief, May 21, 2004
This review is from: The Light of Stars (Hardcover)
"The Light of Stars" brings a comforting awareness to the grief process. This book is an excellent reference for any adult who is leading a child through a period of grief or death. Through its colorful pictures and moving conversation between the little girl and dog, a person becomes touched by the greater reality of life and death in the world around us. The story will not only touch the youth but will also help the child in every adult, because in times of grieving we all become young at heart.

5.0 out of 5 stars A nurturing book to help during times of loss, May 21, 2004
By
celeste racicot (Fillmore, CA USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Light of Stars (Hardcover)
My beautiful old dog, Kaya, died in November and left a big hole in our lives. Kaya was quite a part of our household, ever present and involved in everything we do as a family. Our friend's little daughter, Jackie, was quite distraught and full of questions about what happened to Kaya. Early one morning we sat together in a big comfortable chair, with her on my lap, and we read The Light Of Stars together. We wept, we laughed, we talked for a really long time, and we were both comforted knowing that Kaya's spirit is still shining upon us. Jackie has her own book now, and when her pet RAT (yes a rat) died, she was beter able to conceptualize the event, the cycle of life, and grive in a healthy way. Thank you Phyllis Glowatsky for a beautifully written, and wonderfully illustrated book, that I will continue to share with my family and friends.
