5.0 out of 5 stars Best all around soundtrack in 1999!
This is the bomb soundtrack. Master P and his crew lights it up with the title track. The best song in this soundtrack in my opinion. Ja Rule does his thang with his radio hit to kick off this soundtrack. 112 has a quality track. If you want the rap-slowjam mix in one album, this is the CD to buy. 3.0 out of 5 stars Soundtrack By Committee {3 Stars}
I'm not sure how I ended up with this CD, but I found it sitting on the shelf, so I pulled it out to be reviewed. Anyway, it's not that bad of an album (it's certainly better than the movie, but that's not saying much). Ja Rule's "How Many Wanna" is one of my favorite songs from him (hmmm...maybe that's why I got this CD) and quite possibly one of his best songs ever...

5.0 out of 5 stars Light it up sound track is off the hook., November 10, 1999

Hey this CD has it all slow jams, ruff jams, and jams that just kick knowlegde. Just because it has DMX and Ja Rule makes it reason enough to buy it. This isn't the normal CD with 2 or 3 tracks that jam but 8-10 tracks that jam. Any time the first track on a CD jams then usauly mot of them jam. Oh yeah and for all us down south ***** who don't like that east coast **** this is a lttle bit of both. Oh yeah and if you like this type CD check out Eve's new album cause in my opion she's on the rise.

5.0 out of 5 stars Get Em' Up, Hit Em' Up, Light Em' Up, Light Em' Up, March 9, 2000
This review is from: Light It Up (Audio CD)
I gave this cd 5 stars because it is definately worth buying. I only listen to 6 of the 13 songs, and sometimes track 13. "Light It Up" by TRU (Master P, Silkk, and C-Murder) and Mystikal is really good. I am a big no limit fan [[\] [[] [[_ [[ [[\/] [[ "[". Track 1 most people know, is done by Ja Rule "How Many Wanna". Track 2 is by DMX, "Catz Don't Know", and it is just as good as the songs on his albums, it has a really good beat. Track 3 by Az and Beanie Sigel called "That's Real" also has a good beat, and is really good. "First One Hit" by Sole' and Amil. Sole' is one of the best lady rappers out. Outkast with a guy from Goodie Mobb, is next with "High Schoolin", which has a nice beat, and chorus. I don't have a favorite song, but I like the first six songs almost equally. "Light It Up" from No Limit has the same type of set up as "Hoody Hoo". If you don't have this, it is definately worth buying. Buy some No Limit cd's too.

5.0 out of 5 stars This cd is not bad buy afterall!, November 10, 1999

Before I bought this cd, I had in mind that it wasn't worth buying, especially me knowing only a few rap artists on this soundtrack. But after extensive listening to this whole cd, I discover that all that songs on it are worth listening to. The tracks I like the best on this soundtrack are 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, and 7. I definitely enjoyed listening to track 4, and 7. Track 4 has that type of beat that gets me going mentally. This beat is similar to the beats by swiss beats producers. I can't wait to go see this movie, because I know it's going to be off the bleachers. I recomend everyone who haven't bought this cd yet, to go it now.

5.0 out of 5 stars There are some really good songs on here!, June 9, 2001
This review is from: Light It Up (Audio CD)
Usually hip-hop soundtracks have one big artist, and then a ton of non talented wannabes. Well, not this one. When you combine some of rap and hip-hop's biggest names such as DMX, Master P, 112, Ja Rule and of course the amazing Outkast, you are bound to get awesome results. Jon B. redid Bob Marley's hit Waiting In Vain for this soundtrack, with very good results. Then newcomer Amil got a chance to shine for her above average track First One Hit. Outkast, which are quite possibly one of my favorite groups ever, performs very well with their track, which features Slim Cutta Calhoun. Master P does the title track. The only song that just seems out of place is 'N Sync's If Only In Heaven's Eyes. Now don't get me wrong, I like 'N Sync, but they just don't sound very good on a rap/hip-hop soundtrack. But this overall is a very good CD that any fan of hip-hop should purchase.

all i can say about this cd is that it's the bomb! dmx does a banging track as usual, and master p with 'light it up', is the best track on this cd. the slower songs are decent too. it's definetly worth buying!

Ja rule's presence alone makes this cd worth buying but add dmx and master p and this is a must buy. How many wanna ride is the tightest cut on this soundtrack

3.0 out of 5 stars Soundtrack By Committee {3 Stars}, December 10, 2006
This review is from: Light It Up (Audio CD)
I'm not sure how I ended up with this CD, but I found it sitting on the shelf, so I pulled it out to be reviewed. Anyway, it's not that bad of an album (it's certainly better than the movie, but that's not saying much). Ja Rule's "How Many Wanna" is one of my favorite songs from him (hmmm...maybe that's why I got this CD) and quite possibly one of his best songs ever. There are other solid cuts like "That's Real" (Beanie Sigel & AZ), "High Schoolin' (Outkast & Slimm Calhoun), and "Light It Up" (Master P & The No Limit All Stars) and 112's "Anything" and Beverly's "Here" are nice little throw ins. After those great tracks, things take a serious nosedive.

As with most soundtracks, there are a fair number of tracks where the artists are simply going through the motions. DMX's "Catz Don't Know" is boring and Amil & Sole' drop one of the most lifeless tracks I've ever heard with the uninspired "First One Hit." And don't even get me started on Jon B's miserable cover of Bob Marley's "Waiting In Vain." The rest of the unmentioned songs, while not totally bad, are pretty forgettable.

The Light It Up soundtrack isn't all bad. Some of the tracks are generic, but that should be expected with most movie soundtracks. The gems on the album make it worth grabbing if you can find it used (I don't think I could justify buying this brand new). I recommend giving this album a listen before actually buying it though.

Standout Tracks: How Many Wanna (My Favorite), High Schoolin', Light It Up, and That's Real
