This review is from: A Light Warrior's Guide To High Level Energy Healing: Medical Qigong & A Shaman's Healing Vision (Paperback)
The book, as stated by the author, is not meant to be used as a manual to learn Qigong. Naturally, the book is not rich in terms of actual practice content. This was not something I anticipated based on some reviews. The tag actually says: Personal Story of Transformation, High level Qigong, Medical Qigong treatment methods and Ageless Wisdom. And true to this order, it is the story that occupies the center stage of this book.

The book has around 185 pages. The first 85 or so pages deal with the personal tale of the author. With no disrespect intended, I did not find anything useful, inspiring or noteworthy from these pages. There is a brief history of Qigong which again I found to be of not much help. This is followed by 4 pages of actual content that covers both a brief overview and the actual technique of the Stillness Movement Qigong that is described as "High level Qigong". The technique is very simple and illustrations are easy enough to follow. I also thought that the step-by-step outline of the form presented by the author was indeed useful. There are pictures of the Gift of Tao movement Qigong but obviously no details as the author sells a separate DVD to teach that. The rest of the 40+ pages deal with some general stuff on Medical Qigong, prayer, sacred sex etc., none of which I found useful or what I have not read elsewhere in greater detail or with better clarity. So, it was about 10 pages in the entire book that I could actually get something out from. And the actual Qigong technique is to actually hold a hand position and remain still, which I already do! So, that would mean no real takeaway for me from this book.

Finally, I like books where actual content outweighs the number of words and expressions and long tales. And that is not something I could find in this book.

I hope this won't hinder your exploration and possible appreciation of the book. I hope you have a better experience with the book.

Edit:

After I wrote this, this is what I heard from the Author himself:

"I have repeatedly said that, even though I list the method of Stillness-Movement in the book, none can really learn the method from this (folks want it to be listed so I listed it as a reference).

The method I teach strictly depends on energy body vibrational changes made by the Teacher's energy projection initially to the student and then the student's continued practice so as to access these Higher Vibrational states.

I have NEVER said a person could learn qigong from ANY book. In fact, I say just the opposite - Find a Teacher that can project energy.

A lot of people have received good benefit from reading this book and it has received good reviews. But it ISN"T a how to book except as a reference for those that have studied with me.

Let me say this. This book certainly is NOT for everyone. Only when a student has reached a point when they are ready to embrace non-linearity and Higher Vibrational levels will this book have much meaning."

Michael seems to be a real nice guy and probably a great Qigong teacher as well, but unfortunately, I still stand by what I said about the book.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must have book!, July 26, 2006

This review is from: A Light Warrior's Guide To High Level Energy Healing: Medical Qigong & A Shaman's Healing Vision (Paperback)
This book, A Light Warrior's Guide to High Level Energy Healing, is the presence of a high level teacher reaching through to you where ever and whenever you are.

For me, Michael Lomax says clearly everything that I've intuitively known about Energy and Light but not put into words. To have the confirmation in a book in the hand is a great gift, indeed.

As a faithful tai chi and qigong practitioner, I was interested in Michael's Stillness/Movement Qigong in Chapter 3. So I decided to try the method for the hundred days suggested to give it an honest go. Within two days I made this qigong meditation part of my daily practice. If you've ever achieved that deep pure beautiful space, the high level connection with all--Bliss!--but then never quite achieved that state so well again, this is the method and the book that will get you there.

I especially like what Michael says about energetic cord attachments. If you work with people in any sort of therapeutic way or if you are energetically connected to everyone you know, this information can save you from burnout.

5.0 out of 5 stars Definately High Level!, January 22, 2006
This review is from: A Light Warrior's Guide To High Level Energy Healing: Medical Qigong & A Shaman's Healing Vision (Paperback)
Michael's book is very unique among Qigong books available today. His style is beyond any I have experienced before. The practices and techniques in the book have added a whole new dimension to my practice and healing abilities. His teaching is infused with an essence that is very strong and real. I highly recommend this book to not only beginners, but qigong practitioners who are ready to take things to the next level. And if you ever have the chance to study with him in a workshop, do it! He is amazing in person!

The methods of Qigong given in the book A Light Warrior's Guide To High Level Energy Healing have produced unexpected benefits. His instructions are clear and very effective in producing results. Reading the book and going to one of his workshops is highly recommended. Michael LOMAX's spoken words and actions also confirms his will to help anyone and his dedication to Qigong and his readers.

5.0 out of 5 stars Take the classes!, December 3, 2008

This review is from: A Light Warrior's Guide To High Level Energy Healing: Medical Qigong & A Shaman's Healing Vision (Paperback)
For over three years the only books that I purchased were on Reiki, Qigong, and Energy Healing in general. I spent a LOT of money on books. Then in September of 2007 I attended a workshop of Michael's hosted by Chris Leininger (see his review above). On the advice of Chris I packed all my books away and devoted myself to doing the Stillness/Movement meditation for an hour every day. Now it is over a year later and for the last year I haven't bought any Qigong books, using that money instead to attend 5 more of Michael's workshops from Branson to Nashville. My life now is filled with almost daily occurrences of 'coincidence' where things happen to me that make me laugh and think of Michael.

As Michael says - "You can read books on Qigong from now until the end of time and you won't gain as much as you can from DOING an hours worth of meditation (specifically the Stillness/Movement meditation)." And I have found this to be very true.

So is this an instructional book on Qigong? Well, sort of, but not exactly in the format you see in other books on Qigong. What the book really is for me is a glimpse into the almost magical and awe-inspiring world of a Qigong Master, and as such it provides me with the drive to attend more workshops and receive more energy transmissions from Michael to raise my energy level even higher, and the dedication to spend every moment possible doing the meditation and Gift of the Tao movement.

Read this book along with "Mysteries of the Life Force: My Apprenticeship with a Qigong Master" and then find yourself a Qigong Master who can teach you directly, and you won't need to concern yourself with finding that perfect Qigong instructional book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Expand your mind and improve your healing capabilities, August 19, 2008
By
This review is from: A Light Warrior's Guide To High Level Energy Healing: Medical Qigong & A Shaman's Healing Vision (Paperback)
Picked up this book prior to attending a seminar with the author and now read it about twice a year to keep all content fresh in my mind. There are a lot of quality books out there on Qigong healing but this one excels where others fail. It is holistic and is readily applied to the demands of life in American culture.

Additionally the content has many spiritual overtones that are written in a way that all can apply to there own world view. Few authors of Qigong address the spiritual aspects of Qigong cultivation and Qigong healing.

For example consider this quote from the book: The Light can and will prompt a certain path. Sometimes these prompts are a wake-up call and sometimes they are gifts for our personal transformation."

Another great aspect of the book is its ability to help healers overcome limiting linear beliefs (i.e., what is and isn't possible). In contrast the author writes: "There are no limitations of time or space. The only limitations are those we impose upon ourselves.

As a certified Clinical Practitioner and Level III Advanced Instructor with the National Qigong Association I highly recommend this book for both personal development and to take your healing abilities to a higher level.

This book is amazing! It helped me to put a lot into perspective. Now I better understand things that have been puzzling me for years. I would HIGHLY recommend this book to anyone interested in Chinese Qigong. Michael Lomax really knows what he is talking about. He relates it in ways that are easy to understand and follow.

5.0 out of 5 stars Don't misjudge a book by its cover, July 29, 2010
This review is from: A Light Warrior's Guide To High Level Energy Healing: Medical Qigong & A Shaman's Healing Vision (Paperback)
I suspect that if Michael Lomax was Chinese, wore the silk pyjamas and spoke in riddles, he would have people kicking down his door to learn from him.

I thought I had had some `interesting' experiences, having been around the likes of John Chang and others. They however seem to pale in comparison to those Michael details in his book. For those who have read the remarkable account of Wang Liping's apprenticeship as the inheritor of the Longmen Pai lineage, (`Entering the Dragon's Gate'), let me tell you Michael's account is in many ways just as remarkable and fascinating.

Spirit guides that assist and guide the seeker when needed. Encounters with dark entities while helping the spirits of a Native American tribe ascend from their earthly bonds. Moving between the past, present and future in order to help others and himself. Moving in and out of different dimensions. Last, but not least, meeting and learning from a remarkable master of neigong.

Thanks to the Internet I was able to do some more research into Michael and particularly his teacher, Wang Juemin. Several people had visited him during the 1990's and given remarkable accounts of their experiences with him. That Wang Juemin was a renowned qigong healer was something I was able to confirm myself, as I live in China and was able to get a Chinese friend to look into this for me.

From his neigong practice, Wang Juemin was able to survive nearly twenty years of terrible privation in a Chinese prison during the Cultural Revolution. This was a great boon to mankind as he had studied under, and was able to pass on to Michael Lomax, the combined wisdom of several of the greatest qigong masters of the twentieth century. That Wang Juemin had this wisdom was rare enough, but his willingness to share it with a non-Chinese made him almost unique. While Michael does not bang on about it, he does in fact have one of the best lineages of any neigong/qigong teacher anywhere.

While this and the stories were all very interesting, they were not the reason I bought the book. I was interested in finding out more about the Stillness Movement neigong practice. I had read one review on Amazon.com where the person described the inner quiet and peace they had got just from practicing what they had learned from the book (Michael himself recommends attending a seminar for the full benefit). Having experienced a few times a sense of profound stillness and peace myself, I was very interested in any practice that could deliver this.

From my experience of doing Stillness Movement, I know the flow of qi is clearly enhanced. As the body balances out, the mind also comes to a more peaceful state. I find that simply from doing this practice, new and old issues arise but smoothly dissipate. It can genuinely be described as moving, healing, meditation.

My own opinion is that this form of practice may indeed be related to the original neigong practices, as per the movements and dances of the ancient shamans. While following the practice, I've found myself performing qigong exercises that I had seen outlined in books but never personally practiced before. I've also found myself doing arm and waist movements reminiscent of Asian dancers, such as those in India or Bali. My arms would also do wide, sweeping movements, like they were gathering in qi. If I stood up I would find myself rotating around in circles. All of this was the body moving itself, none of it deliberate or forced. These lead to very definite energetic feelings and movements.

Very interesting was the significant improvement of a long-standing shoulder injury. Other qigong had helped, but the Stillness Movement practice, in a short space of time, almost eliminated the pain completely. I am sure with continued practice it will remove the pain totally. Having lived with this pain for over three years, I was very, very impressed.

As the practice can be done sitting down, it is very relaxing and does not require special breathing or any athletic ability to practice. This means that an hours practice is not difficult to complete. I am a great believer in other forms of neigong/qigong also, but they can be physically and mentally difficult to practice for a meaningful amount of time. Stillness Movement is not.

Michael also gives guidance on practice in the book that I wholly agree with. That we are here to grow as individuals while being part of the whole is something I believe from my own experiences. Also that it takes consistent practice over a long time period in order to develop. Real attainment comes from daily practice of a method over a period of years.

In conclusion, for someone looking for a practice that will enhance their life, or even add to their existing practice, I can very happily recommend this book. The stories will provide inspiration; the advice will provide useful guidance and the practice of Stillness Movement will benefit both body and mind. As with Michael, I strongly recommend that you find a teacher when learning qigong, and I am more than happy to recommend him and his method. Best wishes and good luck on your journey!
