This is the Real Christmas Music, October 3, 2001
This review is from: Light of the World (Audio CD)
In a world where the true celebration of Christmas is often lost, The Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir reminds us that Christmas is the celebration of the birth of Jesus. The orchestrational introdcution of "Christmas Carol Medley" sweeps majestically just as music written for a king should. In listening to the title track, "Light of the World", the message of salvation through Christ is crystal clear. You can actually hear the choirs' love and passion for Him in every single note. It has brought me to tears many times as I am reminded of what Christ did for us. "I'll give Him my heart" is sung by some of the youngest members of the church and reminds us that our hearts are all we really have to offer Christ. To give Jesus your heart is to give Him your life. Something we often forget. Songs of dancing santas and reindeers may be nice but they draw our attention away from Christ. "The Birth of a King" is the 8th track on this album and takes us back to the time the Saviour was born which you can see in your mind's eye. The 9th track is the "Worship Medley". Soulfully rendered, it tells us who He is and how He came to us, and with lilting melody and rich orchestration, to give Him honor and bow down before Him. "His plan" is the grand finale and ends the album on a glorious note. It tells us that God has a master plan, that all things work together for good and that He will be triumphant. This album is inspiring, uplifting, and glorifies God magnificently. If you want to bring the real spirit of Christmas into your home this season, don't miss this latest offering from The Brooklyn Tabernacle. If you didn't know it was a church you would think you were listening to a big broadway production. You'll find yourself lifting your hands to the Lord in worship and praise. Isn't that what Christian music is supposed to do?

This is POWERFUL stuff! Not typical Christmas music!, November 7, 2001
This review is from: Light of the World (Audio CD)
Oh, I'm SO glad that I decided to play this before Thanksgiving, which when I usually start listening to Christmas music. This album is unlike any other Christmas CD that I have (and I have about 60 of them!). The CD opens with a very glorious, majestic medley of Christmas carols. You've never heard them put together quite like this! Be sure to listen carefully to the lyrics of the title track "Light of the World". Babbie Mason fans will be interested to know that she wrote "Peace on Earth" for this project! My favorite song on this album might well be "I'll Give Him My Heart", based on the poem by Christina Rosetti:<(***)The beginning is sung by a child and it will really touch you! Then your heart will soar as you hear the whole choir coming in later in the song. I guarantee this song will give you those Jesus-goosebumps! <g> One of my all-time favorite Christmas songs is "The Birthday of a King" and you don't find it recorded on too many albums. So I was very happy to hear it on Brooklyn Tabernacle's Christmas album(***)You can order it here on Amazon! You might be interested in checking out my other reviews of Christian books and music! May God bless you richly this Christmas season!

Sacred, passionate, and joyful, December 2, 2002
This review is from: Light of the World (Audio CD)
This is choir music at its best. It takes off immediately with the opening number, "It's Christmas", an overwhelmingly joyful and exuberant piece, ending with a portion of "Winter Wonderland". The Christmas Carol Medley is the only truly familiar music here, and the carols are magnificently performed. But the unfamiliar choral works such as "Peace On Earth" and "Light of The World" are each notable. And I don't think you even need to be religious to enjoy this music. If you want a truly great choral CD for Christmas, I highly recommend this.
