Bride and Doom, July 29, 2006
This review is from: Light of the World (Charmed) (Mass Market Paperback)
Delighted to be a part of their friend Lyssa's wedding, the sisters head to Serenity Cove, a town of eccentrics where every misfortune is blamed on the ghost of a lighthouse keeper who vanished one hundred years ago--shortly after his fiancee died at sea. Lyssa's fiancee James is a young, handsome professor researching the lighthouse legend. His good looks remind Phoebe of Cole, and she wonders if James, like Cole, is hiding a dark side. Her sisters think that she is being too cynical, but the more Phoebe watches James, the more convinced she is that something is terribly wrong. Meanwhile, mischievous water creatures torment Lyssa and try to ruin the pre-wedding festivities. Can the Charmed Ones save this wedding--and should they?
Light of the World is a compelling, well-paced adventure, full of fascinating supporting characters- the sweet Lyssa, the crazy townsfolk, Simon the incubus, and the naughty nixies. The evil threat is worthy of the sisters and not easily conquered. The only weak spot is Leo, who sounds like a pale, emasculated version of his television self. Luckily, however, he isn't around much. Truly, Light of the World will delight any Charmed fan.

great book, December 13, 2010
This review is from: Light of the World (Charmed) (Mass Market Paperback)
i loved this book. i did take long er to read it than i did the other charmed books. thats cuse i was getting all ready for christmas.anyway the action is the book was great. it gave a great story line before getting all action filled. i like that when you get to see more of a story line in a book.the writer described all the events so vividly you could really picture it happening. like as i read it it seemed like in my brain i was watching the tv show and it all happening in it.piper was not as winey in this book as she is in others.phobe didnt have to small a role in this one ether. it seems some of the charmed books phobe doesnt have as big a role and piper is winey. this one it wasnt like that. phobe had a bigger role but not to big and piper really didnt wine much.i did not really like the way paige was protrayed in this as much.still was a great book.

No Light in this book, October 27, 2006
This review is from: Light of the World (Charmed) (Mass Market Paperback)
The book starts out nice and easy, with good description, gentle writing and an easy tone. There is a wedding happening soon, and it is that of one of the Charmed Ones' good friends Lyssa. There are coloured pigeons, exploding water mains, water crashing on a succubus and an urban legend about a ship crashing into the rocks by the sea because of the scorn of a lighthouse keeper. Basically, a lot of water.
It has all the elements of a good mystery novel, and gets you hooked.
From there on, everything crashes to the ground heavily.
There are pixie-like water creatures, a spirit of a lighthouse keeper who wants the Light of tbe World to find his lover's spirit, and did I forget to mention the jewel Light of the World can also bring on monstrosities from the depth of the ocean that look like crap?
Fair enough. Imaginative, creative, but handled horribly. The action moved fast, and there was a good enough plot (which are good qualities) but the author had no idea how to handle them. He basically ruined the climax of the book with TOO much action - Phoebe getting kidnapped, the Charmed Ones knocked unconscious, and the nixies handling those monstrosities. One can only take so much from the ending of the book. Everything was happening at the same time such that it became confusing and rather tiring to continue.
There was also no twist, nothing to give a spin on the situation, so the overall ending was just a vanquish of the lighthouse keeper spirit, which didnt even need the Charmed Ones to do. An okay book overall, but the ending could use a LOT of fine tuning.
