Pop doesnt come much more fun than this!!!,
By
This review is from: Light Years (Bonus CD) (Audio CD)
This is Kylie the way we love her - fun, camp and ready to party!Without a doubt her most commercial and brilliant album. Loaded wth great singles, Spinning around, On a Night Like This, Kids (with Robbie) and Please Stay, the rest of the album is actually stronger than the singles, but all the songs complenting each together so well. ALL but one of the tracks are upbeat pop tunes, with the exception of Bittersweet Goodbye, a sweet ballad which falls halfway through the cd. Difficult to list a favourite as they are all so damn good, but if forced, Disco Down, Your Disco Needs You (a CRIME this wasn't an international single release!!!), I'm So High and the very Donna Summer-ish Light Years. If you are unsure which kylie album to get - this one wins HANDS DOWN. Its pop / disco / dance at its best. A truly brilliant pop album. The extras - additional remixes, most very good. The new cover is in actuality a card slip-sleeve, with the original sliding into it.

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Light Years (Bonus CD) (Audio CD)
I had ordered this cd because I was looking for the remix of "Butterfly" and a Vocal mix of "Spinning Around" which is on here. First off I actually bought "Light Years " for my brother earlier this year(from amazon.co.uk) and listen to it before I gave it to him. This cd is more disco in feel than her new "Fever" cd. You get the hits "Spinning Around","On A Night Like This","Plaese Stay" and "Your Disco Needs You" plus even better non hits like "So Now Goodbye","Under The Influence Of Love","Light Years","I'm So High" and the beautiful (and rare)ballad "Bittersweet Goodbye. "Kids" with Robbie Williams and "Butterfly" which was released on a small label in 2001 are here too. A great album of disco dancing fun by Kylie. Disc 2 features remixes of tracks from the cd that are great too. "Spinning Around" comes in the vocal mix by 7th District and a dub by Sharp. "On A Night Like This" comes in two mixes :the Rob Searle dub mix and the Bini & Martini piano driven 6:35 mix. Missing is the superior Movtiv8 Mix but I have it. Then 3 mixes of "Please Stay"- A dub by Hatiras and a single and 12" mix by 7th District again. This is really good too. Then the 9 minute Sandstorm dub of "Butterfly".I just bought an American cd single of "Butterfly" from another on line place that features the vocal Sandstorm mix as well as mixes by Illicit and E-Smoove that are even better. And lastly you get the Casino radio mix of "Your Disco Needs You". A really good price for both the full cd and bonus remixes. The cd is from Holland.

Granted, this CD may be a little difficult to find, but but's well worth the trouble ... As a fan of mostly hard rock / punk, it takes an especially good dance / disco CD to excite me ... And Kylie Minogue's "LIGHT YEARS" is that good ... While not TOTALLY retro sounding, LIGHT YEARS does have the feel of the great disco era of the 1970s : a song like "So Now Goodbye" could sit proudly next to many of the great disco songs, and would have been great at Studio 54 circa 1977 .... And "Disco Down" is right there between "Dancing Queen" and "Love To Love You Baby" on my favorites list ... "Disco Down" even has lyrical references to the ABBA classic and "Le Freak" ... But that's not to say LIGHT YEARS is in a time-warp ... The songs and performance on LIGHT YEARS is timeless, filled with great songwriting and wonderful production ... Not to mention one great singer :) ... I was drawn to this CD because ( despite my love for rock and roll ) I absolutely love ABBA and 70s disco in general, and I think Kylie has created an album that sounds fresh and timeless, while continuing to bring out a feeling of an era that still has yet to be equalled ... In my opinion, a great song is a great song, regardless of the style: and LIGHT YEARS has alot of great songs !!!

Kylie Rocks!,

I bought this to add to my Kylie Collection. I started with her 'Fever' CD and knew I wanted more. Unfortunately her stuff is hard to get. This Album was definately worth buying. This is one of those CD's where you can listen to the entire thing and like every song. This is now my favorite Kylie Album. The songs are so upbeat and catchy. The remixes are an added bonus as well. This is one cd all Kylie fans must have!

A Kid's Review

Every Kylie fan who has the original album of "Light Years" should know what that disc is like, so I will just focus on the bonus disc of remixes.
There are two remixes of the #1 hit single "Spinning Around". One of them is by the very talented 7th District, who also remix "Please Stay" on this disc and the other is by Sharp Vocal. I personally prefer the 7th District Remix but they are both great. Next come two remixes of the #2 hit single "On A Night Like This". These remixes are even better. The first, remixed by Rob Searle, is a heavy-trance remix and is it actually very danceable and great. The second is by Bini and Martini, just out of interest, who also remixed Gabrielle's "When A Woman", it sounded similar. Kylie's mix is better, but check that remix out too. The best from "On A Night Like This" is the Rob Searle Remix. Missing is the Motiv8 Nocteral Remix which is also great, so get that if you can too. Even though it was not the biggest hit, "Please Stay" is up next and features three remixes! I must admit that the remixes of "Please Stay" are the best on the disc! The Hatiras remix is very random but it has a very unique sound. The next two are remixed by 7th District. The first, a radio remix, is very good if you like your remixes bite-sized. The second is a six-and a half-minute club mix which is the best on the whole disc. It has a very grasping 'ping-pong' beat which sounds great! The eighth track is a remix of "Butterfly". The is the weakest on the disc for me, as it does not sound as club-based as some other remixes, despite being nine minutes long, it still only sounds like a day-time remix. The remix of "Your Disco Needs You" is my second favourite remix on the disc. (The radio and hatiras mixes of "Please Stay" come in close after this.) It was used for the single when it was released in Germany. Get this 2-CD set or you are really missing out! There is a hidden track called "Password" on the original album, very good, as the other fourteen tracks. The aussie tour-edition features two extras tracks on the bonus tour disc. "Physical" and "On A Night Like This (Motiv8 Nocteral Remix)". Kylie performed "Physical" on her On A Night Like This tour, also entitled Live In Sdyney. It is a Oliva-Newton-John cover song.

New Millenium, a fantastic album to start it,
This review is from: Light Years (Bonus CD) (Audio CD)
This cd is, to me, the best album to come my way.
It features extraordinary tracks that will keep you dancing all through the years. Spinning Around, the albums opener, really kicks off this album in high spirits. Co-Written by Paula Abdul, the song has a catchy chorus that you will catch yourselves singing it to either your lover, or in the shower. On a night like this and Please stay, stand out as the dance/latin tracks of this album. Loveboat is a song that gets you going on the dancefloor. Kocachoo, is more of a austin powers type of track, but sure as hell squaches Madonna's beautiful stranger like a grape. I'm so high is pretty much the regular type of song on the cd. Its mystifying guitar riffs blended with electric sitar really makes this song sparkle and shine. Kids features british-singer Robbie Williams (Millenium, Angels) as guest vocalist and co-writer. They really do great on this song. Your disco needs you, really shows Kylie more in the times with this hot disco/dance number. The cd has a suprise hidden track called Password. Its located in front of Spinning Around on the t-minus seconds before the cd starts. Its a bit tricky to access it, but if your cd player has a back search button on it. You'll find it on -3:47 of the disc, or back even more. Password is also a song that gets you rockin and dancing, even in your sleep. I Give this album an A+ standing. I guarantee that this album is a keeper and a must have for every music fan and cd collector.

A Unique Pop Album by Any Standards,

You will be hard pressed to find a more stylistically diverse album by a single artist than this one - especially one that still manages to not embarass itself. I love the different flavors cooked up here by Kylie and her collaborators. No surprise it wasn't a US release - it's too interesting, in a way ("interesting" pop albums aren't so popular). "Fever" is much more one dimensional (and I LOVE "Fever"), a carefully planned straight narrow path, while "Light Years" is a road trip with spur-of-the-moment side tracks through a musical flea market. Structure ("Fever") vs spontaneity ("Light Years"). I like both, but artistically, "Light Years" is more of an accomplishment. It's more FUN. If your preference is for more formulaic, less experimental stuff, then pass on this one. If you want to imagine Kylie as the hostess of the bestest birthday party ever, then this a must-have! While you're at it, pick up Paula Abdul's (co-author of "Spinning Around") "Head Over Heels." Vocally, they're pretty similar.

If you got hooked on Kylie in 2002 like I did, and want to check out some of her pre-"Fever" albums- this is the one!!! It's much more eclectic than "Fever." There's a little something for everyone- "Your Disco Needs You" is the biggest, campiest, & best disco anthem ever (and I can't believe it never got club play here in the US!!!) "Kids" is a rock-out duet with Robbie Williams (just one of his contributions here). Awesome. "Spinnig Around" was her 2000 comeback hit overseas and was written by Paula Abdul, of all people. Very cool dance-pop. "Koocachoo" is groovy, 60's/Austin Powers-style pop. This is also the album where "Butterfly" first appeared- you know, that really good bonus track at the end of the "Fever" CD? These are just some of the highlights, but trust me- every song is good and the remix CD that comes with this is good too. It's the perfect "getting ready to go out" cd. Get it now!

Kylie's Comeback,

Before "Light Years" Kylie Minogue's previous two albums were a departure from her trademark style of pop and dance music. Light Years is a return to the uplifting style that made her a phenomenon in Australia and the UK. The first single, "Spinning Around" is a refreshing and irresistable dance tune that you won't be able to get out of your head! It was a smash #1 hit in the UK and "Light Years" spawned a further three top 10 hits. "On A Night Like This", the albums second single, is Kylie's strongest dance track up to this point in her career. Also notable is the hard edged, "Kids", featuring Robbie Williams. On "Butterfly", Kylie fuses dance and rock brilliantly. This tune is very reminiscent of Janet Jackson's "Black Cat". Released as a promo CD single, "Butterfly" is a collectible for hard core Kylie fans. "Light Years" is a consistent album that will definitely keep your feet moving. Kylie's voice is crisp and clear and This limited Tour edition with bonus remix CD is a must have.

You need this disco!,

If radio stations played Kylie Minogue instead of trashy-cum-helpless-school-girl-pop-singers, the world would be at the very least a slightly better place. Light Years is surely one of Minogue's best albums. This edition comes with a bonus CD containing all kinds of remixes (which are just as good as the album). Light Years is essentially a good old fashion disco treat and I encourage those who enjoy ANY of Kylie Minogue's other material to give this album a try. Also, for fans of Robbie Williams, a couple of the tracks on the album were co-written by Minogue, Williams, and (Williams' right hand man) Guy Chambers. Have fun.
