5.0 out of 5 stars 5 stars and then some!!! Buy It!!!, May 5, 1999
Never have I come across a better author. Bodie Theone (tay-nee) is truly amazing. These books are full of drama. It's like the characters became my friends. When I finished the series, It felt as though I lost some good friends. I really don't know if I could be as entertained, enlightened and fulfilled by reading anything else after reading this series. Originally I was checking the series out one at a time from the library. But when I realized I'd finally found something I couldn't put down, I figured I better buy the whole series. I have never bought books before, because I've never found anything worthy of being read more than once. I was just so compelled and I want to share her writings with all my friends and family. She's spectacular. So is anything written by her husband Brock, who helps her co-write everything. It's almost like watching a movie, because there are so many plots intertwined. I was shocked to read the epilogue in RETURN TO ZION. You'll have to find out for yourself. Just don't start reading in the middle of the series. If I could never read another authors works but one it would be the Theone's. - Megan Villa

5.0 out of 5 stars It keeps getting better, January 22, 2007

I received this series from a pile of books to give away from a church library, and having heard of them before, I thought I`d try it. Beginning the first book, I thought it was okay, but somewhat typical of most Christian fiction I`ve read. By the time, I finished, it had become more interesting, and I was anxious to start the next book to see what would happen. Having just finished "A Light in Zion", I am more and more impressed with the author, as the story seems to capture a variety of veiwpoints and beliefs and lives, and respects most of them. I am recommending these books to everyone I know.

This series as well as the previous, the Zion Covenant, are fantastic. You truely feel like part of the story, and most facts are accurate. I love reading about this time period in history, and the Thoene's do a fantastic job. Enjoy!

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful "Factual Fiction", January 3, 2007
This review is from: A Light in Zion (Zion Chronicles) (Paperback)
All of the Thoene books relating to the Jewish history before, during, and after the birth and life of Jesus. Bible stories, factual history bound together with some fictional conversation. These books are riveting, extremely informative and very spiritual. It's much like reading and studying the bible with stories that flow so well that they remain in your memory. I started with AD Chronicles(5), then the Zion Chronicles (5), and currently finishing the Zion Legacy. These books will change your life. When I finish, I'm going to read the entire set two more times. They are worth committing to memory. These authors are gifted and a blessing.

5.0 out of 5 stars Rock solid historical novel about people of faith, September 12, 2010

This review is from: A Light in Zion (Zion Chronicles) (Paperback)
In Book Four of the Zion Chronicles, the last days before British troops depart from Palestine do anything else but wind down peacefully. The Haganah, the underground army of what will soon become a reborn nation of Israel, fights to retain control of an Arab village that was captured as a convoy carrying desperately needed supplies forced its way through to occupied and starving Jerusalem. The Palestinian Arabs, who once lived in peace with their Jewish neighbors but now fear the hordes of Holocaust survivors and Jews from the rest of the world pouring in to occupy more and more of Palestine, do all they can to fulfill their vow: the Jews will be pushed into the sea. Yassar Tafara, a young Arab who aspires to leadership, takes charge of a perfectly legal arms shipment aboard an ancient freighter departing from Yugoslavia, while American Jewish war ace David Meyer and Meyer's recent bride, journalist Ellie Warne, try to both stop that shipment from reaching Palestine and keep themselves out of U.S. custody. Haganah leader and Hebrew University Professor Moshe Sachar fights to keep those of his people left in Jerusalem alive, including his young wife, Rachel, and their adopted baby daughter Tikvah. Captain Stewart, the commander of the British troops who will soon go home and leave Palestine's inhabitants to their battles, remembers his brother who died in this conflict that Stewart believes unworthy of risking even one more British life - so as the Arabs attack a hospital-bound convoy of Jewish doctors and nurses, Stewart orders "non-interference" even against the disbelief and fury of his own troops.

So goes this fast-moving and thrilling installment in the Thoene saga of the months leading up to Israel's rebirth. Like all of their other books that I've read, this one is rock solid in its history. Its inspirational elements spring from the characters, which often saves the story from turning into a sermon, and the weaving of fictional characters into actual events and real historic figures works seamlessly. The Thoenes don't hesitate to let their people confront the realities of the time and place, nor do they shrink from the pain, the fear, and the doubts and conflicts those realities create. And that is what makes their work so vividly readable.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great series!, January 30, 2010
This review is from: A Light in Zion (Zion Chronicles) (Paperback)
This entire series is worth reading and keeping in your book collection. It's a shame the series hasn't continued because I'd keep reading as long as these books were being published.
