From the Manufacturer
LightAir IonFlow 50
LightAir IonFlow 50 delivers with an eye-catching beauty probably the healthiest air in the world. It offers an outstanding combination of efficient, silent, ozone free, energy saving, and easy to use, economical operation. LightAir IonFlow 50 boasts stylish looks, features, and performance. Research and development shows that LightAir IonFlow 50 in continuous operation is extremely effective at eliminating the smallest airborne pollution particles (nano particles below 0.1 micron). These particles normally represent around 90 percent of all particles in the air and are considered to cause the most severe health problems. And, a LightAir air purifier does not lose effect over time like filter-based air purifiers do.
Unbeatable Advantages
|
|
LightAir Ion Flow 50 reaches high performance levels. LightAir uses its unique and patented technology. Instead of moving air through a filtration system, LightAir literally removes harmful particles from the air in a room, trapping them in a collector. When necessary the collector can be easily and rapidly removed and cleaned in hot water--no repeated, costly filter replacement. Traditional electrostatic and mechanical filter air purifiers quite often present performance based on the airflow at the highest air speed at an unacceptable noise level. The independent test from the Swedish National Testing and Research Institute was carried out in a closed test chamber with a regulated supply of smoke particles and showed the remarkable result of effectively eliminating practically all airborne particles (size 0.3-1.0 micron) in less than five hours.
Tests show that LightAir IonFlow 50 is extremely effective eliminating the smallest particles (nano particles below 0.1 micron) which cause the most severe health problems. The extraordinary performance of LightAir IonFlow 50 air purifier is mainly due to its ability to generate enormous volumes of electrons forming a corresponding quantity of negative ions. In fact it generates more than 250,000 ions per cubic centimeter measured at a distance of one meter. This is a level that probably no other ionizer has ever reached before without serious side effects and without generating any ozone. This large amount of negative ions balances out the overdose of positive ions in indoor air, a balance that is proven to be good for our health. Even more important is its capacity to distribute the negative charge throughout the room and collect particles which is directly related to the large production of negative ions.
How It Works

Extensive Research. Decades of Development.
The engineers at LightAir have been doing research on ion generators in Sweden for more than 25 years. They have developed sophisticated applications that have been used all over the world at military facilities, in the casino industry, the fruit and vegetable industry, horse racing stables, hospitals, and many more situations. During the last 10 years, scientists at LightAir have been focusing on research using ionization in air purification for home and office environment, which have resulted in the unique patented LightAir IonFlow Technology

seems to be working, zaps you if you touch it.,

I put the air purifier in my living room first, and after about two weeks the collecting unit was all covered in very thin fuzz. It was very easy to clean off. Now it is in my kids bedroom, they really appreciate the light, and I like that their air might be cleaner. The unit itself was very easy to assemble, but since it zaps you when you touch it, and it is quite unpleasant feeling, we decided to use the cover, and it was real pain to assemble - there were about a zillion parts that were really hard to insert into their proper places. I am sure the manufacturer could have made a cover that is easier to make.

Over promises and under delivers,
This review is from: LightAir IonFlow 50 Surface Air Purifier (Kitchen)
Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
According to the packaging and description, the LightFlow IonFlow 50 has some amazing new design that silently rids the air of dust, pollutants, and allergens. The claims of winning various awards, the sleek design, and the high price tag would all indicate a high quality product that helps with allergies and keeps homes cleaner. All indications are essentially wrong in this case, as the IonFlow 50 doesn't actually appear to do anything at all.
First off, there's a minor quibble with the instruction manual. For some reason the assembly instructions aren't linear and included in the same place, and require flipping between different sections. As an added annoyance, the plastic guard piece, which is the only part that requires any serious assembly, isn't even required for the device to function. After several days of use in the living room and a few more in the bedroom, the air purifier hadn't done anything but use electricity. There was no noticeable change to the scent in the room, there was no dust gathered at the base of the device that was pulled from the air, and the air didn't feel any cleaner than it had before. The IonFlow 50 does have a very attractive design however, and the lights are pretty nifty. Unfortunately that doesn't come even close to justifying the price tag, especially considering the instructions specifically warn against having the air purifier place within a foot of any furniture. Other than aesthetics, there's simply no upside here.

Believing that this works requires a bit of faith,

This is an interesting device. It's an "ionic" air purifier, which means it doesn't physically move any air -- there are no fans and no filters. It all works through static charge.
Using this product, and believing that it works, requires a little faith. The device comes in three parts, and requires assembly. An upper-assembly attaches to a lower assembly, and there is a metal "collector" that slips over the housing. The power cord has a three-way switch, so that you can turn it off, turn on the air purifier, or turn on the air purifier with an ambient light effect in the clear base. There's an optional "guard" that you can assemble that covers the metal collector so that you don't accidentally get an electric shock from the device. The guard consists of two plastic rings and countless flat spokes that you must assemble like a little "erector set". It took about 10 minutes to put this piece together patiently. You don't need to use it, but I recommend it. There are four lights in the device that you can either turn on or turn off. The lights are blue. It's a pleasant shade of blue and not very bright. It could serve as a nice nightlight or decorative light. When I turned on the purifier for the first time, I could hear it audibly clicking if I put my ear near it. Otherwise, it makes no noise at all. The clicking subsided after a few hours. That's about all the device "does". Whether the device works is subjective, which is why I insist you have to have a little faith in the manufacturer that it's working. In essence, the device attracts particles to the collector. Any particles in the air that are too large to be statically attracted to the device will get heavier and drop out of the air. In other words, your room will get dustier than usual. You would have to dust and vacuum in order to clean the particles from your room. What have I noticed after using this device for several weeks? The room in which the device is located is significantly dustier than usual. This leads me to believe that the device is working as advertised. The metal collector on the device doesn't seem to collect too many particles, but I'm concluding that's because most of the pollutants in my air are too big to be attracted to the device. Hence, they just drop out of the air, and hence the room is dustier. The air does seem "cleaner" and there's virtually no odor in the room it's located. Again, this is highly subjective, but I do believe the device is working as it should. The air just "feels" cleaner. If you're the type of person who needs to "see" the dirt in a filter to believe that an air purifier is working, you won't like this device. If you have a little faith in the device, and don't mind dusting one or more rooms a little more than usual, then I would recommend this device. It's quiet and attractive, and I believe it's working.
