I put the air purifier in my living room first, and after about two weeks the collecting unit was all covered in very thin fuzz. It was very easy to clean off. Now it is in my kids bedroom, they really appreciate the light, and I like that their air might be cleaner. The unit itself was very easy to assemble, but since it zaps you when you touch it, and it is quite unpleasant feeling, we decided to use the cover, and it was real pain to assemble - there were about a zillion parts that were really hard to insert into their proper places. I am sure the manufacturer could have made a cover that is easier to make.

1.0 out of 5 stars Over promises and under delivers, November 23, 2010
This review is from: LightAir IonFlow 50 Surface Air Purifier (Kitchen)
Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
According to the packaging and description, the LightFlow IonFlow 50 has some amazing new design that silently rids the air of dust, pollutants, and allergens. The claims of winning various awards, the sleek design, and the high price tag would all indicate a high quality product that helps with allergies and keeps homes cleaner. All indications are essentially wrong in this case, as the IonFlow 50 doesn't actually appear to do anything at all.

First off, there's a minor quibble with the instruction manual. For some reason the assembly instructions aren't linear and included in the same place, and require flipping between different sections. As an added annoyance, the plastic guard piece, which is the only part that requires any serious assembly, isn't even required for the device to function.

After several days of use in the living room and a few more in the bedroom, the air purifier hadn't done anything but use electricity. There was no noticeable change to the scent in the room, there was no dust gathered at the base of the device that was pulled from the air, and the air didn't feel any cleaner than it had before.

The IonFlow 50 does have a very attractive design however, and the lights are pretty nifty. Unfortunately that doesn't come even close to justifying the price tag, especially considering the instructions specifically warn against having the air purifier place within a foot of any furniture. Other than aesthetics, there's simply no upside here.

4.0 out of 5 stars Believing that this works requires a bit of faith, October 13, 2010

This is an interesting device. It's an "ionic" air purifier, which means it doesn't physically move any air -- there are no fans and no filters. It all works through static charge.

Using this product, and believing that it works, requires a little faith.

The device comes in three parts, and requires assembly. An upper-assembly attaches to a lower assembly, and there is a metal "collector" that slips over the housing. The power cord has a three-way switch, so that you can turn it off, turn on the air purifier, or turn on the air purifier with an ambient light effect in the clear base.

There's an optional "guard" that you can assemble that covers the metal collector so that you don't accidentally get an electric shock from the device. The guard consists of two plastic rings and countless flat spokes that you must assemble like a little "erector set". It took about 10 minutes to put this piece together patiently. You don't need to use it, but I recommend it.

There are four lights in the device that you can either turn on or turn off. The lights are blue. It's a pleasant shade of blue and not very bright. It could serve as a nice nightlight or decorative light.

When I turned on the purifier for the first time, I could hear it audibly clicking if I put my ear near it. Otherwise, it makes no noise at all. The clicking subsided after a few hours. That's about all the device "does".

Whether the device works is subjective, which is why I insist you have to have a little faith in the manufacturer that it's working. In essence, the device attracts particles to the collector. Any particles in the air that are too large to be statically attracted to the device will get heavier and drop out of the air. In other words, your room will get dustier than usual. You would have to dust and vacuum in order to clean the particles from your room.

What have I noticed after using this device for several weeks? The room in which the device is located is significantly dustier than usual. This leads me to believe that the device is working as advertised. The metal collector on the device doesn't seem to collect too many particles, but I'm concluding that's because most of the pollutants in my air are too big to be attracted to the device. Hence, they just drop out of the air, and hence the room is dustier.

The air does seem "cleaner" and there's virtually no odor in the room it's located. Again, this is highly subjective, but I do believe the device is working as it should. The air just "feels" cleaner.

If you're the type of person who needs to "see" the dirt in a filter to believe that an air purifier is working, you won't like this device. If you have a little faith in the device, and don't mind dusting one or more rooms a little more than usual, then I would recommend this device. It's quiet and attractive, and I believe it's working.

The purifier looks really cool and collects dirt fast. That being said, I bought the product in September and it stooped working in November. It was sitting in a corner in my bedroom so no one even touched it. I might just have been very unlucky but i would not take any chances for that kind of price. I would not buy it again and I recommend not buying it in first place.

I purchased the IonFlow in May and it died on me just recently. I expected for somthing so expensive to last a long time. For $300 I dont think its worth it if it ends up dead in 5 months. IMO it should last a LONG time, atleast a yea imo.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not exactly sure it really does anything at all...other than use electricity, September 29, 2010
This review is from: LightAir IonFlow 50 Surface Air Purifier (Kitchen)
Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
As I received my air purifier, I thought if nothing else, it was an interesting modern-looking decorative piece of, well, I'm not exactly sure WHAT, but it certainly does look modern. Unfortunately thats about all it does. I put it together, using the not-so-decent included assembly guide (it looked to me as though if I could read French or Spanish I would've been a lot better off--but since I don't, I'll never know for sure) and it took awhile to assemble this one particular piece that, when all is said and done, really does absolutely NOTHING. Don't know why it was included at all. If I had looked more carefully at the picture on the front of the box it came in, I would've saved a lot of time by not assembling it in the first place. Honestly, I have ZERO clue what it is or why it was included.

I turned the unit on and let it do its thing for a good 4-5 days now and I cannot tell in the slightest whether it cleans the air or just sucks electricity. Seriously, is there even a way to prove that it does anything of what it claims to do? Other than generate a slight static electric shock if you get too close (which IS its own form of entertainment when my little boys get nearby) as well as provide a minor night light for navigating our dining room in the dark, this device seemingly does nothing at all that I have been able to verify. If it really DOES clean the air, I have not been able to tell one bit. For those who require for various reasons purified air, I would seriously look elsewhere or at the very least, take it someplace that can actually measure--if possible--whether or not it cleans anything other than your pocketbook.

I am grateful that I had the chance to receive this through the Vine Program, because had I actually paid for it, I would have taken it back almost immediately. Food for thought.

2.0 out of 5 stars Look good, does not work well, April 26, 2009

I had bought this unit because I did not want something ugly and did not like the idea of consumables. The IonFlow 50 is a looking design but the construction is cheap for the price you pay. The power LED was loose when I received the unit. It did not work to my expectations even when following the placement instructions. It does pick up particles but very little for the week I had it on. Still a very good looking unit though! If you do not care about looks then take a look at the Friedrich C-90B Electrostatic Air Purifier - (Formerly C-90A) - Award Winning Air Cleaner

2.0 out of 5 stars Does it do anything?, October 21, 2010
This review is from: LightAir IonFlow 50 Surface Air Purifier (Kitchen)
Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
... other than look like a cool conversational piece? I've put this item in the kitchen and the foyer, both high traffic areas for the family and outside air circulation. It's been on for almost a month. I have yet to see anything to clean up in the collection chamber... It's does provide a little shock if you touch the metal ring, so I would suggest putting on the protective cover. Fairly easy to assemble. Looks like half a Star Wars lightsaber. For ~$250, I'm not sure what is is doing for you other than look pretty.

5.0 out of 5 stars Remove particles without noise, December 28, 2011
This review is from: LightAir IonFlow 50 Surface Air Purifier (Kitchen)
Put the three pieces together with no problem and turned it on. The next day the particle collector ring was already visible "hairy". Works silent and great design. I am a experienced ionic breeze user. This is much nicer.
