These things are great. I have an unfinished basement with exposed light bulb fixtures, and a 5 1/2 foot ceiling down there. After breaking two light bulbs with my head, I ordered these. Easy to install, easy to change light bulbs after installation, these things are well worth the price.

As the product description says this product comes in two halves which are fitted around the bulb by clamping them between the light box and the bulb holder. Fitting is easy (given you have sufficient clearance around the bulb holder to easily slide in the two halves of the cage) in that you simply loosen the screws that secure the bulb holder to the light box until the gap is sufficiently large, slide the two halves of the safety cage in between, snap the two halves of the safety cage together around the bulb and then re-tighten the screws. The light box provides a secure mounting for the cage and the cage itself is sufficiently robust that it does not flex at all. The two halves clip together securely with small pins and hole locators plus tabs which snap together. There is plenty of room for CFL and oversized bulbs. The cage is made of white plastic which is a good match to the finish on most ceramic bulb holders. I have uploaded some pictures which show how the finish assembly looks. Overall a nice product, not cheap but well executed.

These are perfect solutions to install in garages and other tight spaces where you are liable to knock out a lamp. There are plastic and somewhat light duty, but for most residential applications, just fine. They are easy to install, though i had to struggle a bit to get the pins lined up. They have an open space at the bottom that allows for easy lamp replacement. True, if you have very bad luck you might hit a broomstick through that spot, but it is a good trade off for quick bulb switches. Won't rust, obviously and is plenty strong enough for most things encountered.
