5.0 out of 5 stars Should Be Bundled With the Lightwave CD, July 24, 2004
This review is from: LightWave 3D 8: 1001 Tips & Tricks (Paperback)
Without wasting time here...if you're a Lightwaver, you should get this book. Put the bills on hold, if necessary, and eat cereal for a week. :-) As a beginning - intermediate Lightwave user/student, I've bought and read most of the new Lightwave books, and this one is the most valuable, by far. Having this book lying beside your computer is like having 30+ Lightwave gurus at your elbow, whispering their secrets in your ear as you model, texture, and render. There's nothing out there like it...well, Killer Tips maybe but 1001 T & T has tons more information. If ever a book deserves a 5 star rating, this is it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Tips & Tricks and so much more, July 13, 2004
By

This review is from: LightWave 3D 8: 1001 Tips & Tricks (Paperback)
This volume contains the insider perspective on how to make Lightwave work for you. While the title makes it sound like a bunch of sound bytes it couldn't be further off. Each tip (and trick) places itself within the production environment and shows you how to get not just from A to B but also further down the road. You can read this book straight through or jump around by topic. The biggest pay off for me is the exposure to topics I have yet to approach in Lightwave. The writing presents an easy going attitude that encourages the reader to explore the book and the software. This volume is not a primer for Lightwave but is suitable for users of all levels. Buy this book and keep it next to you, it is worth the price and more!

4.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic but a bit redundant, July 27, 2005
By
This review is from: LightWave 3D 8: 1001 Tips & Tricks (Paperback)
The blurbs about this book are right. There are no other places I have found for the kind and quality of information contained in this book... at least for a non-super expert in Lightwave 3D.

Yet at the same time, there is much redundancy within the book itself (several tips are essentially identical) and with the reference manual provided by NewTek.

So there are really quite a few less than 1001 super neat and fantabulous tips and tricks here, but there are plenty enough to make the purchase a valuable addition to your reference library for LW8.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Rosetta stone for LW, July 13, 2004
By
This review is from: LightWave 3D 8: 1001 Tips & Tricks (Paperback)
The de facto, absolute must own Lightwave book. Whether your an industry Lightwave professional or brand new to Lightwave this book can not disappoint you. Its not just that the material covers all areas of Lightwave but it provides new takes on old as well as new techniques, ideas and theories. If you own every Lightwave book written or have never bought one, do yourself a favor and buy this one and then clear a spot next to your computer to keep because you will always want it within fingers reach.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is 'THE' Must have book for Lightwave, July 12, 2004
By
This review is from: LightWave 3D 8: 1001 Tips & Tricks (Paperback)
Understand that this book is not a book full of tutorials. Even though there certainly are some in there... The 'spinning light trick' is a good example of a 'trick' that no Lightwave user should be without. The book does sort of, double and triple up on some of it's tricks... however... seeing how individual Lightwave Artist do one thing is a great way to fully understanding better ways to put the program to work for you... there are working methods and techniques that the manual will not teach you and you would be hard put to find else where... This book truely is a collection of Professional 'ways and means' that the Lightwave user can apply to his own methods and come off the better for it... This is the all around 'must' have book for all Lightwavers...

I have been working with Lightwave for 3 intensive years now...I have many many tapes, CD's, DVD's lightwave Inside, magic tours, seminars etc. This book has the answers to many many everyday issues that haven't thus far been covered. I can't recommend it enough.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent, July 12, 2004
By

This review is from: LightWave 3D 8: 1001 Tips & Tricks (Paperback)
This book is an excellent supplement to the manual (both online and printed/pdf). This book is not meant to be of a user guide/tutorial type. Rather it is containg countless tips and quick how-tos. Some of them are obvious to those who are more experienced, but many will prove very useful even for lightwave veterans. If you are new to lightwave and want to start from "the beginning" I suggest Inside Lightwave books by Dan Alban. If you already have those and/or simply want to expand your knowledge and understandng of LW, this is the book for you.

The tips are grouped nicely so you can quickly locate a tip pertaining to a particular area of lightwave: setup, modeling, lighting and what not.

5.0 out of 5 stars Definitely a must have reference for ANY Lightwave user., July 12, 2004
This review is from: LightWave 3D 8: 1001 Tips & Tricks (Paperback)
I have many of Wordware's Lightwave related books and they are all great resources. The Tips & Tricks book is the best one-stop reference for Lightwave I have ever read. There are so many great little tidbits that only industry professionals and long time hobbyists would know. This book easily brings you up to speed on all the tools and techniques that get the job done in Lightwave...whether its logos, dynamics or particles and FX. If you only buy one Lightwave book, this has to be it. Most of the tips are perfectly useful in older versions of Lightwave as well, so if you own [6] or [7] this will be just as helpful.
