5.0 out of 5 stars A must-read for all lighthouse fans, June 14, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Lighthouse Families (Hardcover)
Who says you can't judge a book by its cover? The well-designed cover of "Lighthouse Families" is what first grabs the reader's attention. Inside, the pages are made from thick, high-quality stock. The format of the book is neat and crisp--very eye-pleasing. Nostalgic family photos and full-page color pictures of lighthouses are generously interspersed throughout the book's 192 pages. The writing is captivating, telling the stories of the people who lived in and loved the lighthouses along the coasts of the United States. This book contains something for everyone--romance, heroes, history, pictures, and even recipes.

I bought this book when it was first out back in the late 90's, And just had to give it to an old girlfriend of mine for her birthday.

This book has true to life stories about the lighthouse keepers from all over the USA. it is very well documented history and is quite fascinating.
It would be well received by any lighthouse buff young and old alike.

5.0 out of 5 stars absolutely delightful, March 18, 2011

This review is from: Lighthouse Families (Paperback)
A lot of lighthouse books tend to be picture books. I have nothing against that, but I'm interested enough in them that I really want to learn a little more about what it was like to live on one of these things.

The authors do that by interviewing some of the lighthouse "kids" (they're all in their 60s, 70s and 80s now). What a delightful way to get a feel for that. It's almost like listening to one of your grandparents talk about the old days. There are plenty of stories, pictures (from old photo albums and present day), even recipes.

Can't recommend this one enough. Really a delight.
