DANGEROUS LIAISON. Rachel is in love with her best friend, but when Malachi doesn't seem interested, she turns to an international stranger whom she meets on the internet. At first, conversation is just a pastime, but soon, romantic fantasies form in her mind. Why not consider a man who travels across an ocean to meet her-a man who makes her feel wanted? After all, Malachi might as well be a world away-even if his concern does seem genuine when he warns her about the intriguing Frenchman. RESCUE ON THE WAY. Malachi has sworn not to interfere in Rachel's relationship, but he's in love with the head-strong woman who is determined to continue her budding romance.Yet, Malachi senses something isn't right about the playboy who has suddenly consumed Rachel's time, so he vows to save her from the stranger-and herself-even if it means losing her forever.

5.0 out of 5 stars Ordinary people find extraordinary love..., May 17, 2010
This review is from: The Lighthouse (Kindle Edition)
Rachel has a new friend, a Frenchman who's swept her off her feet. So what if she met him on the Internet. So what if her best friend, Malachi, disapproves? It's not like Malachi has ever asked her out, even though she secretly loves him. Malachi has secretly loved Rachel for years, but doesn't want to ruin their friendship. When Rachel finds a new man, whom Malachi finds suspicious (and not because he loves her, right?) Malachi must come to terms...or tell Rachel he loves her. Two ordinary people find something extraordinary when they stop hiding their feelings and tell each other the truth - that they love one another and want that happy ever after. An emotionally satisfying read, with a believable, realistic conclusion.

5.0 out of 5 stars Quick Read! Highly recommended, June 10, 2008
This review is from: The Lighthouse (Paperback)
This book is such a quick read but it's packed full of emotion. I read this in one sitting. Ms. Beaumont does an excellent job of making Malachi and Rachel come to life, as well as describing the scenes in such a way that really puts you there. Loved it!

3.0 out of 5 stars Decent, but a bit tired..., October 5, 2011

This review is from: The Lighthouse (Kindle Edition)
Since I paid so little for this story, I'm not too upset but...

This story is told in a series of flashbacks. That is such a tired format that I was quite surprised to see it used again in this type of book. The writing itself was pretty good but there was more attention paid to details like the Kona coffee that a character brewed than there was to furthering the story line. As a writer myself, I can truly appreciate well-crafted prose; that is only a fraction of a good book, however. I would have liked to read more about the childhood the protagonists shared and less about the black dress Rachel wore or the tux Malachi was practically forced to don.

By far though, I found that the story just didn't have a whole lot to recommend it. A little unbelievable; trite and not very exciting. As a book published by a known Christian publisher, I expected a lot more.

I'm giving it three stars. My kudos is not for the storyline but for the quality of writing and editing. As I said, that's probably the best part of the book. The story could have been told in three pages or less if all the bulk was removed, sorry to say.

I would probably read another book by this author because there is potential in the style and prose. This effort, however...sorry. Not a favorite.
