Ordinary people find extraordinary love...,
By
This review is from: The Lighthouse (Kindle Edition)
Rachel has a new friend, a Frenchman who's swept her off her feet. So what if she met him on the Internet. So what if her best friend, Malachi, disapproves? It's not like Malachi has ever asked her out, even though she secretly loves him. Malachi has secretly loved Rachel for years, but doesn't want to ruin their friendship. When Rachel finds a new man, whom Malachi finds suspicious (and not because he loves her, right?) Malachi must come to terms...or tell Rachel he loves her. Two ordinary people find something extraordinary when they stop hiding their feelings and tell each other the truth - that they love one another and want that happy ever after. An emotionally satisfying read, with a believable, realistic conclusion.

Quick Read! Highly recommended,
This review is from: The Lighthouse (Paperback)
This book is such a quick read but it's packed full of emotion. I read this in one sitting. Ms. Beaumont does an excellent job of making Malachi and Rachel come to life, as well as describing the scenes in such a way that really puts you there. Loved it!

Since I paid so little for this story, I'm not too upset but... This story is told in a series of flashbacks. That is such a tired format that I was quite surprised to see it used again in this type of book. The writing itself was pretty good but there was more attention paid to details like the Kona coffee that a character brewed than there was to furthering the story line. As a writer myself, I can truly appreciate well-crafted prose; that is only a fraction of a good book, however. I would have liked to read more about the childhood the protagonists shared and less about the black dress Rachel wore or the tux Malachi was practically forced to don. By far though, I found that the story just didn't have a whole lot to recommend it. A little unbelievable; trite and not very exciting. As a book published by a known Christian publisher, I expected a lot more. I'm giving it three stars. My kudos is not for the storyline but for the quality of writing and editing. As I said, that's probably the best part of the book. The story could have been told in three pages or less if all the bulk was removed, sorry to say. I would probably read another book by this author because there is potential in the style and prose. This effort, however...sorry. Not a favorite.

Ms. Beaumont has created a wonderful emotional story of everlasting love. I loved the hero from the start and could not stop turning pages. I highly recommend this sweet story!

Intriguing from the first page.,

I enjoyed the way Ms. Beaumont weaved each character's point-of-view into this wonderful story of preconcieved notions, misunderstandings, and second chances - proving true love does conquer all. Absolutely loved it!

Malachi And Rachel...,
This review is from: The Lighthouse (Kindle Edition)
Malachi and Rachel are best friends. They depend on each other for advice, good times and eating together. But Rachel is secretly in love with Malachi, who has never shown an interest in her. After waiting years, she decides its time to move on. A delightful Frenchman whom she meets on the Internet has filled her heart.
Malachi has waited years for Rachel to notice him. When Rachel becomes enamoured of a stranger she met on the Inernet, Malachi's sense of impending danger kicks into high gear. Will he stand back and lose his beautiful Rachel to a man who's only known her for a few weeks? From the first page to the last, this novella is well worth the read. Emotions are captured beautifully, bringing the reader into the story, rushing to finish to find out what happens!

Easy to read, easy to relate too,

I usually find it difficult to really get into a book until several pages, or even a chapter, into a book. This one had me by the second page. I found the characters (Rachel and Malachi) true to life. They are ordinary people with feelings; desires; insecurities; and fears. The story is about a man and woman who have been best friends since childhood, but now find that their attraction to each other goes much deeper. The problem is, neither one realizes how the other feels.
The story centers on a budding romance between Rachel and Pierre, a Frenchman she meets on the internet. Throughout the story the characters'(Rachel & Malachi) minds drift to past memories and events that led to them growing apart. What I liked most is that I could relate to the thoughts and feelings they each had. I think most people who have been in love, especially the early stages, can. The author did a great job in drawing the reader, and their emotions, into the story from beginning to end. |
