Useful, but incomplete,
By A Customer
This review is from: Lighting for Glamour Photography: A Complete Guide to Professional Techniques (Paperback)
Kimber's book is well written and readable. There are numerous diagrams showing the lighting set-up used. Why am I less than enthusiastic? First, Kimber repeatedly stresses that tungsten lights will produce a warm, glamorous image. In my opinion, so repeatedly that he excludes other, equally useful information. I also think that the quality of the photographs is not sufficiently good to accurately show some of the lighting effects. If you have access to a full studio and can test his set-ups, fine. If you don't... This is NOT the only book I'd want to own about glamour photography, although in fairness it does contain numerous good examples of effective lighting. Borrow from your library.

One of the best book on the subject of lighting and Glamour,

This review is from: Lighting for Glamour Photography: A Complete Guide to Professional Techniques (Paperback)
After reading this book I found new information that I've been able to use in my teaching class on glamour and modeling class I teach at Sac City College. When this book came out in England before it came out here USA I had to have it shipped here from England. This is because it took a whole year before The USA could see how well the author presented the Technical Data and the windows that show the layout of lighting and camera location, is above all other books on the market....

Disappointingly small amounts of info,

If you're going to teach something about lighting, it would seem that there'd be a lot of diagrams and a range of examples. And if you're about glamour, you'd think the photographic quality and print quality would be first rate. The book is only OK; there's maybe an hour's worth of info in it. There are much better books (like Steve Bavister's Glamour and Portrait books) that are full of explanations, diagrams, and ways to think about approaching your subject.

Absolute Best Glamour Lighting Book,
By A Customer
This review is from: Lighting for Glamour Photography: A Complete Guide to Professional Techniques (Paperback)
First I should point out that if you are looking for a single book that covers all you need to know about glamour photography, you will never be happy. Having said that, I believe this to be the absolute best book on glamour lighting for someone who is serious about doing glamour photography. I am a serious working photographer who does quite a bit of glamour photography, and although I do not always agree with the author, I find the lighting techniques presented in this book to be mostly excellent.

This book is awful. The pictures are not very good, there are a few diagrams but the pictures don't reflect the diagram. The woman are attractive and pretty - that's the only good thing I can say about this book. There are many other better choices for glamour photography than this book.

If you are looking for something that teaches the basics. This is the book for you. All pictures are well explained and easy to duplicate. Each shot is described well with a diagram of how the lighting was setup. Definitely one to have in your collection. This book could also help a pro by giving them posing ideas.

A lot of the techniques covered are still relevant and will continue to be, but some of the information is a little outdated (e.g. Visual styles and tastes change quite often). It also doesn't help that a lot of this info can be found for free online. It's still nice to have a handy reference, though.
