5.0 out of 5 stars An interesting book, January 9, 2009
This review is from: Lighting and Photographing Transparent and Translucent Surfaces: A Comprehensive Guide to Photographing Glass, Water, and More (Paperback)
One look at this book and its not hard to tell it is going to be different than any other photography book. The mystery is taken out of how to achieve the best results when photographing transparent and translucent surfaces. I gained confidence and learned a lot of useful information when incorporating elements such as water, glass, ice and plastic into my images. I was also impressed with the detailed breakdown provided by this book which clarifies the effect a certain lighting situation will have on the subject. This is one of the more unique and interesting photography books out there.

This review is from: Lighting and Photographing Transparent and Translucent Surfaces: A Comprehensive Guide to Photographing Glass, Water, and More (Paperback)
What appeals to me about this book is its unique content. This is the first book I have read regarding shooting translucent surfaces! Since it is, I consider it my Bible! There is a lot to be learned from another great Amherst publication.... Highly recommended for anyone interested in this subject.

This review is from: Lighting and Photographing Transparent and Translucent Surfaces: A Comprehensive Guide to Photographing Glass, Water, and More (Paperback)
Rand tackles one of the most difficult subjects with precision, depth, and clarity. Every photographer must deal with photographing transparent and translucent objects, and few become expert at this challenging subject. You'll find everything you need to know here to deal with reflections, distortion, and other aspects you're likely to encounter when photographing water, glass, and similar objects. This unique guide is an essential reference for any serious photographer.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent and Comprehensive, June 9, 2009
This review is from: Lighting and Photographing Transparent and Translucent Surfaces: A Comprehensive Guide to Photographing Glass, Water, and More (Paperback)
Rand's recent book is well-written and highly informative. It's thorough and yet still a pleasure to read. The book's focus allows the author to examine the subject matter in depth. Rand's all-encompassing approach to the topic offers valuable information for the amature and professional photographer alike. Unlike some other books, his examples are not fill; instead, they trully aid in recognizing subtleties and effectivly implementing techniques.
I highly recommend this book.

This book is a nice companion book to my other photography techniques collection. It has quite a good discussion on different scenarios in terms of photographing technically challeneg subject matter. It is good learning material about control lighting with surface texture interaction with light.
